Hey,
I have 8.5 acres that is up against the national forest about 60 miles N of Houston.
Finally getting going on this. The plan is the main part of the shop to be 54 feet long and 50 ft wide and then all along the rear 54 ft wall will be a 28 ft lean to addition so 2700 ft2 main and 1512 ft2 in the back. 4212 sq ft total :)

A few land clearing pics in a minute...

Its a really good thing to have a friend who owns a JD450 dozer.

A couple of the oaks put up a heck of a fight though.

My old ford tractor with the grapple attachment I made and a pic of my little log pile that is still growing...

Heres a little 24x24 shed roof I whipped up last summer out here. The sheeting and purlins were new but the 12 inch I beams across the front and middle and the drill pipe were surplus. Ended up less than $1500.

That shed roof I did by myself, the tractor with a lifting pole off the front end loader allowed me to do it all.

Man! With that many cut trees I'd be investing in a sled saw and making me some lumber!

I ran the dozer root rake through the build spot and got the vast majority of the organic material out and then smoothed it out a little.

My soil here consists of sand and more sand.

This spot is where im going to start with the slab for the 28x54 ft lean to section. It will be attached to the rear wall of the 50x54 main shop.

Thanks guys.

Believe it or not there is a rural water service out here and their main runs by the SE corner of my property. They just installed the meter next to my front gate for $1330. , they only had to trench 25 feet from their main. I will be putting in about 500 feet of 1 inch ID poly tubing.

Day after thanksgiving I will be rigging up a narrow trenching ripper on the Deere bulldozer, I think it will work since its all just sand here and only need to get down about 1.5-2 feet with the water tubing.

I have exciting pics of gravel!!!! :)

These 2 pics were in the middle of the process. I have down 5 loads from a 12 yard truck so far. Tomorrow getting 3 more loads that will finish the driveway up to the shop build site. That will put me at $4000 on gravel - ouch.

I did get the water line in. Put in a 300 foot roll of 1 inch poly. I got it close enough to my pad site without it being in risk of getting damaged for now. after the building is in I will run it another 100 feet or so and connect it to the shop.

I pulled the throwdown homemade ripper attachment backwards with the dozer and it worked awesome. It is 26 inches deep below the dozer blade.
It hangs from a 1 dia bolt at the top and chained to keep it vertical while pulling.
