Seal an Amish Shed

Hello everyone first time posting here. I purchased an 10x12 Amish Shed last fall. I now want to seal/waterproof it and I really don’t know what to use. I would like something that would make it easier to keep clean. Maybe a semi gloss? I want to keep its natural color but could go darker if necessary. My main goal is to seal/waterproof it. Does anyone have anything they would recommend to use? I’ve got so many different opinions I’m just clueless. Sherwin Williams recommended this.. https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/products/woodscapes-exterior-polyurethane -semitransparent-house-stain?itemCatentryId=19105

Thanks to everyone in advance for all your help!

I would look at clear sealers only because just putting that on will darken it slightly. Be sure you choose a sealer for outdoor use so it has UV resistance. I'd probably go to the Sherwin Williams store and buy what they recommend. I think you generally have a better chance of getting a knowledgable recommendation there than L or HD.

Check the thread from jollygreengiant and his 30 by40 schoolhouse, he used the board and batten siding
and stained it and is really impressive.

Use a natural color exterior stain in semi transparent. Sherwin Williams has them. You could use a solid color exterior stain but it wouldn't give you the natural look your after.

Is the one I sent a link for a good one to use?

You really don't want to "seal" it ! Sealers will fail. You want to PRESERVE IT !

IMHO, use an oil based stain. You might want to mix about a pint/quart of boiled linseed oil to the gallon. This will make it a bit harder to apply (sticky) and it will take a couple of days to completely dry.

Built and stained over 1300 sheds just like that.
Mix 3 gal diesel and a cup of roof tar ( or blackjack in caulk tube). Apply with pump sprayer- spreads wonderfully on rough sawn pine-20 minute job. Beautiful walnut semi transparent look.

Google to see examples.

If you want to keep the wood look, look into Cabot Timber Oil or Cabot Gold Stains. They look awesome and do a great job protecting. The Cabot Gold will give you more of a semi gloss look at feel than the timber oil.

Thanks for all your replies I appreciate it so much. The mixing stuffs sounds a little too complicated for this do it yourself’er lol. I think I’m going to go with this in the Natural…thoughts?

I just came here to post this
It is available in clear. I didn't study the website long enough to know the difference in 100 vs 1500 but both are available in clear which is what I would use.

Thanks so much Craig. I thought about the clear for the 1500 but it notes that it does not offer UV protection. I think I am now going to go to a darker color. Because my shed is so light color I think unless I darken it there will be no way to avoid the UV graying (which it has already started to do). I think I am definitely going to go with the TWP stain I have read good things about it

That is a good choice you need something with a uv blocker and algaecide. TWP, Cabot, Sikkens/PPG, Arbor Coat, and Pennefin. Have use all in the semi transparent and all seem to perform/apply/wear the same.

Thanks for opinion I appreciate it. You mention an algaecide and semi transparent. I don’t see algaecide in the description of the TWP and it says it’s transparent. Will that be ok?

TWP is a good product. Easy to reapply. If you have the uv blocker and wash the building once or twice a year you should be good. Don't over powerwash and blast the lignen out of the wood. Just easy wash or cleaner/agitate wash. It looks like it should protect from mold and mildew, which are harder to remove.
