Can someone suggest a decent driver set for occasional home use for wheel bearing seals and such. Doesn't need to be the best as I may only use it every ten years.

Thanks

Just use the appropriate sized socket and go get yourself something more fun er, uh, useful, like an 80 tooth ratchet or something you will use more often.

MAC set I have is awesome.

I have also gotten by with the HF set in a pinch and it's adequate for the job.

If just driving in and out bearing races and small bearings, no problem.
Get them out with a pin punch and tamp in the new with a hand unit unless you have a hyd. press. Then no need for the hand stuff.
I have seen frugal local car club members try to drive front wheel bearings out with the hand units on VW, Audi, and Asian cars.

Good entertainment, but not the right tool for the job.
Did I say good entertainment tho? LOLOLOLOL.

Go with the HF set I use mine quite often and have no complaints at all. and they are a decent price on sale or with a 20% off coupon.

I purchased a KD usa made set years ago and it has worked great and it was a really good price on sell. You may check into them - but be sure its USA made now because that might have changed over the past 10 years. If its China made I would go with the HF set.

Bringing back an older thread, I am looking for input on sealing driving kits. I have some trailer wheel bearings to replace or at minimum just the seal. Reading on the site I see a lot of talk about the bearing / seal driving kit A1310a. This is the Snap-on kit but I know Lisle makes it an many others too. I was watching an episode of Southouse Main Auto and Eric O was using the kit YA2480. Also a Snap-on kit but again the same kit can be found being sold by many other brands.

Eric mentioned that the YA2480 is nice since the black piece is plastic and holes the IDumbo of the seal tight to prevent the spring lip from flipping during install.

Here are the kits for reference.

I can't comment on the seal and race drivers sets. I don't own one.

I have driven dozens of races out and in with my Mayhew brass drift punch set (PN 61360). Seals I usually grab a large socket or block of wood.

Maybe its just me, but the pricing on those snap on kits is not bad, the parts are $160 and whole kit is on sale for $89. The $79 dollar lisle kit has an extra part (pneumatic driver), but still ...:dunno:

I too was suprised at the Snap-on prices. When I factor in the shipping to Canada on some of the other kits, its actually cheaper for me to purchase the Snap-on kit.

I'm not much of a HF guy, but their kit is great. I couldn't find a USA option when I was looking last year, so I went HF with no regrets.
