Hey guys. I just had my concrete done for a 28x40 shop. He "sealed" it, but now it is turning color and looks like ****. He is saying he applied it right and that it will turn to white over time. Not sure what he used for a product. It has turned more, but it is still a mess imo. Thoughts?

Interesting. In my younger days I've applied acrylic sealer to dozens of concrete slabs that I stained. Never have I seen it turn black, it is always clear.

Hopefully he chose the MMA as this is exterior exposed. When you find out which specific product to use to please let us know!

Will do. It's actually turning white or "natural" over time. It's probably 30-40% turned in about 2 months. The building is up now so I am wondering if it'll stop turning now that no sunlight will hit it. :( That's just my guess as I know little about sealers. My next step will be to see what I need to do to prep the floor for a new application. The Hellfire stuff looks like it may be a good fit for my needs.

Acrylic sealer doesn't take but a couple days to cure so I would be very concerned, and probably grind that **** off and put something worthwhile on there. 1 you should contact him and see if he will at least take care of the grinding part of that, I wouldn't trust him to apply another coating

Looks like ‘whitening’ of an acrylic sealer. Does it look like it’s delaminating? Dab a bit of solvent like xylene or acetone on it and see if it fixes it.

I’ve seen similar situations where it was applied too thick and trapped moisture.

Do you mean to do that on the white part? I don't see delamination so that is good at least. He did send me the exact product. It is this one: https://www.tkproducts.com/product/concrete-cure-seal-as1/

I'm not going to have him do anything to fix this as I don't trust him to even do the grinding. I'm asking for money back which probably won't happen. Unfortunately when I paid him the day it was done everything looked good.

Is the slab in the photo dry or does it have moisture on it?

If dry my guess is the dark areas are where the product was applied to a full flood, the white areas are where the moisture in the concrete has dried enough under the coating to turn white. It will all eventually turn white with time. If you study the photo you can see the signs of heavy application, even some running of product. I bet you just need to give it time.

I'm sure you are right on the heavy application. It is dry in that photo. Assuming it all turns over time... You think it is ok as a decent sealer or would I still need to do more?

The sealer is to keep the moisture in during initial cure, it's doing the job in spite of looking weird. Sealer helps with dusting a little and unless you wear through the penetration of product you are good.
