Sealed boxes?

I understand that sealed boxes are required for outlets & switches on exterior facing walls in the house, but does this also hold true for the garage, since every box will be located on an exterior wall? The 17 yr old girl working the electrical dept. at Menards was not much help :)

Thanks!

In my AHJ, the answer is yes; which I don't understand cause I see allot of guys still using trim rings on exterior walls for low voltage.

For boxes on the exterior we typically use touch foam and foam the **** out of the back of the box and after that dries wrap it in fiberglass batts.

The only downside now is trying to run future wiring into the box if you need to remodel something into the box, is almost impossible.

I think they can be used in both location, I can see no difference in them

Found that local Energy Code does not require vapor barrier boxes in the garage like they do for the house. Guess I can stick with the cheap blue plastic. Tamper resistant outlets are required though, which seems a little silly for a garage...

I bought a stack of the vapor barriers that go behind the boxes for $20. You can use a regular box that way and still have a vapor barrier.
