Hey guys, been looking for a good 1/2 sealed head air ratchet for work - I am a dealership like tech. I like the sealed head ones mostly cause the heads are thinner and the forward/reverse switch is in an area I can get to it if I get the thing stuck between suspension or whatever.

I've been looking at two models - one made by Proto and one by SP. I haven't really found many reviews about either so I figured I would ask here and see what people think. I'm favoring the proto currently - seems more robust and damn does it look good.

I am pretty sure SP tools air tools are made in Japan.....they could well be out of Shinano's factory.

So what's the difference between this style and your (I guess) normal air ratchet other than the direction switch?

Thanks

I have that sp one, i like it. Mines a 1/4 inch though, when its to weak to break something loose i just use it as a normal ratchet to break it loose first. That proto one looks sweet though, i probably would have gotten that if i would have known of it at the time.

The sp one is good though, i use it all the time. The only thing that seems to stand out is it seems to spin faster than all my other air tools.

SP (Shinano Pneumatics) is its own company that's been in business for 30+ years that started out making air ratchets. SI (Shinano Inc) is a completely different company going back to practically post WWII Japan where they started out making rules and jigs. Its very common for the Japanese to use provinces for names so the sharing of this name isn't surprising. The only ties I've noticed with SP are with Kuken as they share some product developments.
