"Sealed Ratchet - Do not immerse in fluids"

Well if it's supposedly sealed then why worry about fluids? :headscrat

Well first of all because it's pointless
Second I''m guessing is your taking it being sealed to litteral
If, say,WD40 mixes with the grease inside it will dilute or even ruin it

If I am not mistaken a sealed ratchet means that the cover plate is permanently attached to the ratchet so that there is a minimal chance of the ratcheting mechanism falling out of the head. Having small pieces of metal in certain areas of an aircraft engine, for example, would not be a good thing.

I'm fairly certain sealed means that it will prevent crud/dirt from getting inside the head.

Probably has to something to do with the rubber seal behind the faceplate and o-ring around the selector. I had a Stanley ratchet seized up on me because metal flakes from drilling got inside the head. Cleaned it out and it worked, added a few drop of light weight oil and it leaked out from every opening.

Same with my GearWrench, I ripped the o-ring around the selector one day while maintaining it, now the ratchet dries up in a few days and get very clicky.

if you take them apart you will see the rubber seals and o rings. they are not the tightest fitting things. they do keep the dirt out pretty well

That looks like an FLF936. There will be a seal around the selector switch and a seal around the square drive. The seals are there do keep dirt and grime out and they do a very good job of that.

Actually, those are FOD ratchets.

They are sealed as well and the plate affixed with a rivet type fastener.

Std sealed rathet heads prevent dust and grime from getting in but not fluids per se'.

Thus why the "do not immerse" stamp.

I'd have thought I could use it to loosen or fasten something submersed. Since it is "sealed".

Interesting, thanks guys.
