My driveway was painted four years ago with solvent based acrylic paint and sealer. It appears that its time to be resealed. Florida's sunny weather is probably a durability concern. What do you recommend as a best value sealer?

No replies, so I am going to ask the question in a different way. It appears that the previous solvent based acrylic sealer applied over the decorative acrylic paint has "evaporated" in the Florida sun and/or washed off in the rain (we do get our share of rain). Wear from traffic does not appear to be the major cause of the missing acrylic, since it was also applied to a lightly used walk which has the same appearance as the driveway. The gloss is gone and water does not bead.

I know of several variables affecting durability that I should consider when selecting a sealer.

1) The thicker the final dry film thickness the better (multiple thin coats).

2) Solvent based will be more durable than water based.

3) Must have UV resistance.

4) Can be applied over the existing solvent based acrylic coating.

There may be another variable - various types of added polymers such as silicone and MMA. While these polymers may improve traffic wear (not the major issue for me) I don't know if they add any value in slowing "evaporation" caused by Florida weather. If they do add weather durability, does it justify any increased cost?

In the end I want to have a good feeling for the cost/year for the sealer I use.

Is your driveway stamped concrete or is it really just a one tone paint over concrete?

I can offer opinion with outdoor stone sealing - slate and travertine, or concrete pavers, but don't have anything 'painted'....

try this.

I painted part of my driveway to look like a path? does that make sense,
asphalt, but it already had sealer, and a mix of other stuff

I also had patio blocks with again all matter of **** mixture and my patio slab directly outside my door which I managed to etch

one coat epoxy and tint-able, went on like a dream, a few days later it rained and no slippery surface. been on for a couple of months.

True test will be winter

its water soluble, but so far so good !
