Sealing old concrete floor

When I had my slab poured 4 years ago I told the contractor I wanted to seal the floor. He had me pick up Kure-N-Seal. It went on like Milk and dried away unnoticeable. I thought that it would be done after that and we would move on. All it did was help it cure I guess.

The surface has been very porous. Since then I have spilt numerous oils, chemicals, ect. on it.

I vacuumed and mopped it today to get the winter grime off it and it got me thinking again.

The Kure-N-Seal that was applied will soften up and wipe away when using brake cleaner.

My Dad's garage floor has a coating that is like a clear shellac. It is slightly glossy and oil will wipe away without soaking in. I think he said it is the same stuff they put on exposed aggregate driveways. His is not slippery.

Is it too late to put a shellac type coating on it now? What would I use if it was possible? I don't care about seeing the stains or anything like that through it.

The stuff sold at big box stores is garbage. You'll have to pay up for commercial grade material.

Have to strip or sand off the existing material.

For just a regular workshop floor I wouldn't do anything for prep but what you have done already.

I use Eagle Natural Seal on the concrete slab in my barn.

It's available from Home Depot, $78.92 for a 5 gallon pail. Shipped to your door for free.

It doesn't change the look of the concrete, just seals it.

Water beads up nicely.

When I was installing my 2 post Rotary Lift about a quart of fluid (Auto Trans Fluid) leaked out onto the floor, I cleaned it up, you can't tell it ever happened. That proved it's a good sealer to me.
