Just finished putting densifier on the last half of my shop floor and it needs to sit for 7 days before applying the 8500 sealer. Is there any down side to applying my expansion joint filler before applying the 2 coats of sealer? Wanting to get a jump on things before the weather turns. Thanks, Mike

Not sure if the sealer will even stick to the silkaflex. But definitely get it down while warm. It will flow to level of warm. In cold it ***** to apply. I did it in two applications. Use painters tape on both sides of it. Looks like hell if you make a mess. Make sure you put in foam insulation so you don’t have to fill the whole cut

Thanks for the reply Kaizen. I've already used it on the other half of the shop. Pretty time consuming for something that looks initially like it should be simple. Did it pretty much as you described, and it came out nice. I used thin foam packing material as it was free and I had a bunch of it. Think I'm going to go ahead and get it done over the next few days before sealing unless I hear some compelling evidence not to. A few pics of the first half of the shop. Thanks, Mike

What sealer did you use? I just purchased Legacy HD6600-MMA Concrete Sealer and was trying to decide whether to use the Sikaflex in my joints before or after my sealer application. Did you end up doing it before or after? Did it turn out OK? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

deron1, just saw your post. I'm sure you have already completed your work, and I hope it all worked out well. My final take on the process is to put down the densifier first, as this allows it to get to all surfaces of the expansion joint, which is probably the weakest link in the slab. Then apply the Sikaflex, as you have that 7 day window before you can put down the sealer, and if you have anywhere near the total length of joint to fill that I did it will probably take that long to do it. There appears to have been no negative affects to putting the 8500 Ghost Shield sealer over the Sikaflex. In the end, the order of steps in the process may be totally irrelevant, but this is my take on it. Mike

For most applications (particularly coatings) it's best to apply the SikaFlex afterwards.

I wrote Ghostshield directly regarding this as I'm in the middle of densifying & sealing my garage. They got back to me an recommended Sikaflex as the last step, in my case for saw cuts.. (They didn't explicitly say not to do the Sikaflex sooner but stated that they recommend that the densifier & sealer get into the saw cuts).

No wait till after sealing, unless you know the sika won’t off gas. If it does, could impact the sealer.

* I live in Vegas and have seen Sika in exterior concrete pads at a bus facility. 20 years later and the stuff is still elastomeric and tear resistant. In the Vegas sun!

I've used it on joints on my sidewalk so I didn't have to worry about weeds poking through. 10+ years on, and it's still looking like new.
