Hi all, I'm looking to improve the sealing on my garage door. I think I know what I want, but I have these heavy cedar doors (see attached pictures) and most of the posts are on regular metal doors.

The doors are about 2 3/4" thick, and there's some gasket thats already stapled to them. They are in pretty bad shape. I planned to buy the standard aluminum channel with a O style gasket. The channels are only 1 5/8" thick, but I figured I can mount them flush with the outside face of the door. Then, I came across a thread that said that wood doors typically use a neoprene gasket directly stapled onto the door (which is probably what is currently on there). Is there a reason wooden doors use neoprene, instead of an aluminum profile?

I have about a 1/8" gap between the door and the jamb -- not too bad overall. At first, I thought I need thermotraks and then I came across green hinges here on this forum. I'm uncertain whether I need to do anything other than install weather stripping, but I thought I'd ask whether the green hinges are suitable for use on heavy wooden doors? If, after I install weather stripping, I find that the door is isn't "squished" into the seal as tightly as I like, or that wind moves it too easily, I want to know whether Green Hinges are a viable option (vs Thermotraks).

My existing door doesn't have any weather stripping around the sides and on top. Instead, there's just a simple cedar trim. I rather not change how it looks. My understanding is that I can pull off the cedar strip, install standard weather stripping (like the one attach in image) and put the cedar trim back over it. Then caulk to finish.

The thermotraks perimeter seal has a very different profile, and their installation instructions state that they are meant to be installed under the jamb. I'm uncertain if this is meant to be the small cedar trim for me, or whether the intent is to pull off the larger wooden jamb underneath it. Does anyone have any experience with which product will be more suitable?

Thank you!
