30 percent extra seems high.
But I may be a little out of date since I don’t like any of the leaf guard designs.
At best they may keep the leaves out of the gutter so they then lay on top of the “guard” and then keep the water from getting in the gutter.
I have a pretty well wooded lot. Oak, hickory, cotton wood, and apple trees close to a 2 story house.
I still prefer to walk the 4/12 roof with an electric leaf blower aimed toward the basket style leaf guards stuck into the down spout hole.
(On occasion, I blow up the down spout before getting on the roof. It is just a belt and suspenders type thing. Nothing much has ever come out.)
It is a 2 person job.
One on the roof and one to watch and move the extension cord around.
(Watching is the most important part.)
But it gives me a chance to use the “saw on a stick” to trim any branches away from the house so the squirrels don’t use the roof as a highway and discover any warm spots they would want to tear into come winter.
At the most it is a 4 times a year job. If it wasn’t for the cotton wood probably 2 times a year. Before the spring and fall rains.
It takes about an hour, and like I said, it gives me a chance to check for other possible problems.
