in the last month or so someone posted a picture of the inside of their garage where the walls went up and he had raised the ceiling to maybe 9ft. so his rafters were up a foot from the wall and he had drywalled the 45degree to the rafters. Am I making any sense ?

I need to find that picture again to show my wife, she is the kind of person who has to see it :) I also want to show it to my architect to make sure we are both thinking exactly the same EXACT thing for the first time in this project.

I am too close to being finished to switch now but I know who to never recommend as a architect.

Anyway, I have spent 2+ hours searching the entire site and I can't find the picture, it can't have been more than 2 months ago and I think its within the last month. Any search gurus know how to find it ? anyone remember it ?

This from the build thread where there was low ceilings but the guy wanted a lift?
If we are talking the same picture(s) there was a shot before drywall (showing trusses) and then after. Sorry don't know where to find them... but I remember the idea was a good one.

if you want a 9' ceiling why not just make the walls 9' if you havent built already? i found a picture i think will help you show what you want...but theres other ways to do this using conventional framing as well...basically its called a tray ceiling and they do make a truss that has this design to it shown in the image below, but like i said if a 9' ceiling is what you want design it to be a 9' ceiling to begin with. and what kind of issues are you having with your architect?

GREAT PIC thanks and the best I could do was 8'6" with the city, I could not meet "solar rules" with 9ft. walls.

Yeah, you read that correctly SOLAR RULES, that is at 5:30PM on Dec 21, the shadow of my building can not touch any part of my neighbors building. It meant I could go about 8'8" wall height and settled for 8'6". I was already squeezed in between setbacks and could not move it over a foot either, i have 20'5" and I am building a 20' building.

Its called shoehorning a building in :)

I think I remember it. Everything was painted white in the completion pic and if I remember right he boxed in a loft at the end. I don't remember replying to the thread but I'll see what I can find.

Try this thread to see if this is it http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15953&highlight=lift+ceiling+height

If not...on the Search feature, you can add in mor ethan one "key" word to the search. I found that thread using "lift" "ceiling" and "height". You may want to try a different combination of words.

Not the one I was thinking of... but it does have this link in it.

http://www.maplevalleytruss.com/GeneralInfo.htm

Lots 'o' truss info there. I can't find the thread either... sorry

Thanks for trying, I am giving up looking for it. just going to go with scissor trusses and be done with it. I liked the look but scissors will be fine.

One is listed on a site that I don't see a pic of on the above pic. It is a coffer truss. That may be what you are after.
