Replacing an old Hitachi cordless drill that is my "Go To" tool for 90% of household projects. I searched Home Depot and Dewalt site but couldn't find what I thought that I saw yesterday. It needs to have adjustable clutch/torque settings as my drill. Everything I keep finding says Impact Driver but I already have one.

In a perfect world, I would stay pick Dewalt, but suspect that Makita (FD10R1) is an alternative. As far as Milwaukee, I see 2505-22 which looks bulky or 2401-20 which doesn't look stable if you go to put it on the ground. I like having enough flat battery on the bottom surface for stability so I am not balancing the drill.

Is there a Dewalt cordless 1/4" drill that I am missing?
Is there a Milwaukee cordless drill with a flat battery in a kit that I am missing?

Again, the Makita seems to check the boxes but I would prefer staying with Dewalt or trying my first Milwaukee tool since they have rave reviews.

I've found the new Milwaukee M12 stuff is super compact and get into some tight spots. Especially using the 2.0 battery. It's the same size as the handle.

2402 FUEL 2 speed Screwdriver is more in line to what you want from Milwaukee. It's the same body as the 2 M12 Fuel Drills, has the adjustable clutch but quick release 1/4" collet instead of the 3 jaw ratchet chuck. Its shorter overall and is seriously a much more pro level tool than the 2401 is.

Still 2401's are great little tools perfect for work bench assembly tasks and small chores they are light weight and inexpensive.

There is one other Milwaukee M12 screwdriver model a 2 speed non Fuel option, 2406 slightly bridges between the other 2

I have both the Fuel and a really old 2401 one before the current face lift redesign. The 2402 Fuel is one of my favorite and most used tools. I most often prefer it over using a standard impact driver will sink a 3" screw no problem.

As for most M12 pistol grip style tools standing up on a compact battery its precarious at best as it is such a small footprint to balance on. Slap in any XC battery though and its very a very solid and stable platform

The 2401-22 for $79 at HD right now is a steal. I ended up getting a second one. It has way more power than I thought it would and it easy and convenient to use.

I really like my Milwaukee 2407 but I primarily use it for drilling as I have a separate impact driver. The hammer function is great for making small holes in concrete and brick.

Just got home from picking up my Lowe's order.Deal runs thru Dec 2nd. They have the Dewalt 12v impact driver OR 12v drill for $79.00 ,you get 2 batteries, charger and bag. They do have a kit that gets both the drill and the impact for $149 but for the extra $9 you get a spare charger and bag. While not the strongest out there I bought it mainly for the batteries as both of my Dewalt lasers, used daily have the 12 volt system and ,in my mind the tool was essentially free. It won't replace my 18v Makita brushless subcompact I drive screws with all day but will stay handy on many jobs. https://www.lowes.com/pd/DEWAL...11eb825407e60a24060e

I think we have a winner. It doesn't check all the boxes but, for the price, will be a good addition.

Thank you everybody for your feedback. Very helpful.

check out the new M12 surge. It's not as powerful as some of the other options but is quieter which is great when you don't need tons of power, which is usually the case when using 1/4" hex drive

You will love it. One of the cheapest red tools I have, yet I seem to use it the most out of all of them :dunno: lol
