hello newb here, great forum, still reading a lot

I've been under a rock the last few years but it's time to add some needed hardware. We maintain our own vehicles, weld, and general maintenance. I say we since the wife also wrenches on her car. After moving several times I'm finally in a nice garage space with whats left of my Dad's tools. His tools kinda came with the garage and is mostly craftsman. I want to say from the late 70s. What isn't missing I'm organizing to keep using since they are perfectly fine. It's all in a large older craftsman storage with all the extras. I just plan to clean it up and add organizers.

I've hunted on local craigslist etc. Just not feeling it.
After searches on the forum I'm looking at adding some sets from SK, and JH Williams. Also just picked up some Wiha screwdriver sets from amazon. Nice.

For the internet here's what I can find I like.
Amazon JH Williams (American made version)

National Tool Warehouse (are these the real SK?)

Any input appreciated. Thanks.

Garage sales, estate sales etc. In the last year I have found many great usable vintage and not so vintage tools. I believe I prefer these to new tools - whether they're made in the U.S.A. or not.

You may have to be patient to find what you want, but you will; unless you live in an area where there are no good estate/yard sales.

If you are shopping online in that price range, I highly recommend talking to Jori over at Harry Epstein. I would suggest Wright, but they also carry SK and Williams. Im also a big German tool fan, especially Hazet. The shipping and any future warranty work might be tougher that way though.

Welcome to the forum.

I like yard sales and swap meets, but CL is a PITA. If you don't enjoy the hunt in the junk piles, just watch the hot deals thread for a bit and what you want will turn up.

Those 2 brands are great tools. I don't have very much Williams, but I can absolutely vouch for SK, mine have served me well over the years. Oh and welcome to the forum!!

Williams and SK are good tools. If you want to save a few bucks post a wanted list of tools in the classifieds wanted section. You can spread your dollars a long way with used tools. Also, those old-school Craftsman sockets and ratchets are some tough stuff and are much sought after when compared to today's Craftsman.

swap meets are the best. garage sales are ok too. look on CL at the garage sale section, type in tools and just pick one to show up to right when they open. this is where most of my really awesome finds come from.
