been lurking for a while and decided to join

i have a sears 11321300 drill press. the previous owner had installed an external 3 speed switch which went bad.

i'm trying to rewire the motor with a plug so that i can plug it in the outlet in the head and use the original switch. it's 115volt

out of the motor i have 4 wires green, white, black and brown.

there isn't any schematic inside the motor plate
here the info stamped on it

model g553
5k49pr315
hp 1/2
rpm 1725/1140/850
v 115
cy60
a 8.2/7.5/7.2
code jbbr52
po810
rise 70 c cont
fsp 84973

one of the four must be for the capacitor and here is what i've tried

brown and white on the neutral side of plug--pops breaker

brown and black on the hot side of plug--buzzes and pops breaker

white and black one on each side of plug--welded plug to extension cord and popped breaker

all worked well before taking the add on switch off.
i can't find any info or schematics on the internet so i can wire this up to a plug. hoping someone can help. thanks everyone

i have continuity between the black, white and brown in every combination. should the capacitor circuit be open until voltage is applied?

ok, i did a little more digging today. the on/off rocker switch was wired backwards and the contacts needed cleaning.
i took the motor off and pulled the plate. the harness on it appears to be home made which is why none of the wires corresponded with what they should.

it looks like the capacitor is internally wired.

i can't get pictures to load , so here is what i have - 4 contacts
___
GY-P

I
I (no letters)

___
BU

___
OR

in magic marker next to the GY-P terminal is L
next to the BU terminal is H
next to the OR terminal is M

so it looks like it can be wired as 3 speeds.
questions: is the unmarked one neutral?
is the capacitor internally wired?
how do i ground the motor?
thanks again.
