If you can find this in store, you can try using a 20% off $100 in Tools coupon (I can't get the coupon to work on ANYTHING online, so print it and take in store).
You can most likely find the coupon here (YMMV), by selecting 'enter member here' and input your email:
http://shc.cpn2c.co/RecomService/web/zd

And you should be able to still get points back discounts if you have coupons loaded to your account and you enter your phone number when checking out in store.

$284 plus tax is still tempting... Who has this set and likes it?

I have a lot of sockets already, but am missing some of the larger ones that this set includes.

Use the shop your way app (on the phone) and you can "shop-in" to add a $12 in points back as well that stacks with the $35 off.

I have the set and it is nice, If you have craftsman sockets you know what to expect... it is just nice knowing the set is complete

Its awesome value for the money but overkill if its just for a home set. Truth be told I regret buying it, should of spent the money on a couple higher quality, all be it much smaller, SK sets.

I was wondering if anyone would chime in with this. It seems like overkill for myself, just a home shade tree mechanic. The only reason I kept going back to justify the purchase was to know I had every socket just in case.

Thanks for the input.

I would have bought the 311 pc set. It has way more 3/8's pieces.

^Ah gotcha. I hate that SK doesn't make a complete socket set with 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 (or at least not that I can find).

299 may be overkill for us shade trees, but the option to buy once and have everything you'll likely ever need is attractive.

I don't see a 311 piece socket set. Do you mean the 308? If so, it is $500, so over double what people are getting this set for.

Could be right. A breakdown of pieces is in the other thread. The 308 kit goes on for the same price as the 299. You just have to keep an eye out for it.

i already have a 300 odd piece mechanics set(3 tray one w/ laser etch), and i still want this set for its completeness of sizes. Some of those larger sockets go for more than $10 if you ever needed it.

As mentioned by Sky Chief the 311 pc set has been discontinued, Parts List provided for reference.

What 312pc set are you talking about?

My guess is that it adds flex sockets or bit sockets. Something that is very easy to add onto the 299pc set.

But you have to stay subscribed... there are tools on there I have boughten and: a) never have used, b) never will use or c) simply don't know how to use. But at those prices I can't afford not to own them.

Your last sentence is what gets me to buy every time. "At those I can't afford not to own" lol

BTW, don't forget to check your local Sears Outlet store if you have one. I picked up this set for less than $180 from the outlet. My set had 5 sockets missing, but I called the 800 number and they were sent out no charge in about a week.

Just offering another option for people who like to save money - like me!

Boy, you guys had me me going and had loaded my cart and was ready to pull the trigger but went and double checked the specs. Sounds like a lot of duplication with a 6 and 12 point. Not saying it's not a good deal and I really would like the easy read printing, but to me I'd probably be better off supplementing what I already have and filling in the blanks on my socket holders (although there are a lot of empty spaces)

That's what I get for drinking the GJ coolaid - wtf am I going to do with all these sockets? (yea, reconsidered when I found a discount coupon and a $10 e gift card)
