Sears - 40% Off Military Discount

I am not sure of all the details. :dunno: I went to Sears to see if they would price match a DeWalt 20 volt impact from Home Depot and was turned down. But then he said he would give me 40% off military discount. He scanned a bar code off a store flyer that started today and I think it goes through Memorial Day. Brought the price from $159 to under $100.

Worth asking for if you visit Sears in store.

I am not military, so I am not sure if he was just being nice or wanted to make a sale.

Wonder if it only applies to Active Duty or if Vets can use it as well.

The doubling for the military discount should last through the holiday. At participating stores.

So 40% off regular prices, and 10% off sale prices.

This is good through the 31st. It's pretty much YMMV. I worked at Sears, and we weren't picky if you had some proof you served. I saw coworkers use it for people they liked or if they wanted to make a sale (most of the employees work on commission).

Not to get pissy but if it is a Memorial Day code it should be for everyone not active duty or veterans. Since Memorial Day isn't about either active duty or discharged veterans at all. Veterans day is in November. This weekend is about those who served and died not all who served.

/end soapbox

As I stated in the first post....I am not military ( past or present) and still received the 40% off. Go sweet talk your local Sears employee then post your rant. Lol

The sales paper states that it only applies to active, retired, and reserve military personnel. While I'm glad that some employees give the discount to veterans and civilians, I don't blame Sears and other businesses for limiting their discounts or other deals to the minority who currently serve, put in 20+ years, or were retired early for medical or other reasons. Discounts are icing on a sometimes crappy piece of cake that service members get for making sacrifices that most Americans could never fathom. I'd gladly trade all of these discounts away for a guarantee that I'll never miss another holiday or birthday with my family.

On that note, the discount should include Gold Star families (at least parents and siblings). Hell, stop giving it to those of us fortunate enough to make it home and give it to those who lost loved ones. They are the ones who truly deserve to be recognized on Memorial Day.

Anyway, I drove to Albany, GA to visit a mall store. Walked around 10-15 minutes trying to find something I wanted and finally got a 16 oz Estwing, 35' Fatmax tape measure, and Knipex pliers wrench. Out the door price was $63

As much **** as we give Sears, here's a chance to give some kudos to them for rolling out a pretty decent discount. I know Lowes/HD/etc. give 10% regularly (somewhat hit and miss it seems), but 40% off regularly priced tools is a pretty great offer.

Yes, it's 40% off primarily Chinese tools... blah blah blah... irrelevant.

Yes I agree......go get your 40% off. How often does that happen? I was shocked when the employee offered it. He wanted to make a sale and I wanted a "New" tool. Take it or leave it. I plan on going back next week and getting a cabinet or 2 and maybe some portable tool boxes.

Has anyone confirmed if it extends to cabinets and tool boxes?

No, I am just assuming at this point.....but at 40% off I think it is worth 10 minutes of my time.

I picked up their 10" band saw for $132 (reg $220) and an air stapler / nailer for $66 (reg $110)

About the price I'd be willing to pay for those if they were good condition used.

Really tempted to get some cabinets or a toolbox... None in store were what I was looking for though.

I went yesterday and got a few things. They will not let you use your shop your way rewards points in conjunction with the discount however.

Yes, they are. I bought the pliers wrench. The 8" cutters would only be eligible for 10% off, though, since they are on sale.

Just a heads up, was in Brunswick, GA today and it seems they extended the 40% off through tomorrow. I paid $12 for some Empire precision pliers and cutters as well as a Greenlee 25' fish tape. Originally the discount was only good through Memorial Day. On the flip side, though, most stuff was on sale and only eligible for the 10% off. A buddy told me that he got the discount in Savannah yesterday, so it's at least in Coastal GA.
