Direct link to pdf from Sears.com
http://www.sears.com/ue/home/5Offcoupon.pdf?sid=I0084400010000100383&aff=Y

Words of advice-
-Printing in color raises less eyebrows from the uninformed cashiers.
-Be polite and the cashier should have no problems with multiple purchases.
-Many Sears Mall stores are on Holiday hours ~7 am - 11pm
-Craftsman Carpenter's 937591 pencil is a great filler item $0.56

just keep in mind coupon abuse can potentially ruin future coupon issuing.

I want that pivot screwdriver for $13 and never on sale. I printed one in color and one in B&W to compare my success.

OK, just figured it out. I'll be hitting all the sears in the area on a daily rotation and buying 2 sockets at a time.
I should be able to get a full set of short and deep sockets by end of jan

I live less than 5 minutes from a Sears hardware store. I'm thinking of going there tonight to give it a shot!

It definetly works... I've had luck with taking 2 coupons to the women's clothing dept and asking them to ring up a socket on each transaction.

FYI did the math and its cheaper to just buy their stubby wrench set (cheapest wrenches) at full price than to piece together the entire set even buying each wrench w/ the $5 off coupon, therefore I think its still cheaper to get for example the 145 piece set than try to buy an entire set a socket at a time.

The coupon is great for filling in the holes in your sets though.

It's cheaper to buy two at a time, each for free.

Actually, I just want to increase the set I have to include the larger sizes and some duplicates. I don't need a full set.

Yeah they work. I bought all four 1/2" drive socket sets that were on sale for $19.99. These are good for sockets and extensions. Anything $10 or cheaper. Great find thanks. I can't believe these are good for another month.

I picked up the $4.99 screwdriver set tonight (for FREE) with the coupon. I got a copy of tomorrow's ad and will be picking up the retractable trouble light on sale for $11.77 (minus the additional $5) tomorrow.

I'm going to spend some time tomorrow going through my sockets and wrenches to see what I am missing.

I can't believe it's good until Jan 22nd. I will have the place cleaned out by then of just about anything under $8-10.

While I was in line and at the register "none" of these coupons were working, but they said it was happening all day and they just manually override giving the $5 discount. Clearly its getting abused, my guess is that its shut down in no more than 24 hours.

Bought a Gladiator Garage wall hook for the garage for $.56.

This coupon would be a nice way to fill in the wrench set that came with $90 145 piece tool set.

The 2nd post on this thread is to a .pdf copy of the coupon. Simply download a copy, save it and print as many as you need until Jan 22nd. I have my printer working overtime.

Picked up a half-a-dozen items tonight. Even a mini grease gun from the Automotive dept. There's going to be a lot of empty pegs before long. Used b/w and color copies without a problem.

You can pretty much be guaranteed that you won't see this coupon ever appear again, at least not in computer printable form. I wonder if the Sears employee who came up with this promotion still has his job...

I disagree. If anything, I think it makes us spend MORE money. I still ended up spending an additional $10 or so tonight that I would not have if I had not found out about this coupon. I think the Sears employee should get a raise as I am sure they have made Sears stock jump up.

The coupon has been live for atleast 48 hours prior to the post here.
A similar coupon (10 off $20)was emailed out about 4 years ago.

Basically this is a last minute effort for sears to boost sales.

Enjoy it while you can

They are not losing any money. If you bought every loose socket with these coupons it comes out to be still more expensive than the 299pc socket set which is $399.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooo. I almost got a divorce the last time I found Sears $5 off coupons for $5 or more. The last time was in April of 1999 just after I got married. At the time, the coupons were for anything in the store. I think we cashed in 43 coupons in six weeks time. :bounce: Nothing like having 5 of the same screwdrivers! My wife hated to go to Sears with me until she realized she could get a whole new towel sets (one piece at a time) for $3.00.:D

Coupons like this "routinely" get canceled. How long it lasts will depend on whoever inside of Sears high enough on the food chain that finds out and decides what to do. How much it gets abused, as in using more than one per visit will be a big factor, that and how large and identifiable the group is that should have gotten them.

Does anybody know the legitimate source of the coupon, filling out a survey or some such?

JC Penny's just did a $10 off $10+, but only originals were accepted.

To get you to spend MORE money, the coupon would have to be $5 off $20 or something to that effect. They lose money when it gets abused by everyone trying to cash in on things barely over $5 and making multiple transactions effectively getting the item(s) for free. Something on the books pays for it. They might as well just hand out $5 gift cards at the door.

So does it have to be one item for $5.00 or more or can you get several items that add up to it? Can you get a $4.99 item and use it since it will be more than $5.00 after tax? Can you use more than 1 coupon at a time?

I heard the tools manager in my local Sears talking to one of the employees and asking "where did all the $5 off coupons that have been floating around come from???" after I had just used one. I looked sheepish and snuck away with my 2 free sockets.

One coupon at a time, total needs to be $5 or more, but sounds like close has worked.

Some people have had success with taking several items to the register and having them rung up $5 at a time. Others visit several different check out locations with tools.

I used one tonight to buy a Craftsman 47476 swivel driver and register scan did not accept the coupon, but the kid just marked the item down by $5 and said it was happening all day.

Link to the pdf is still working, so I downloaded it, and plan to keep a couple in my pocket as long as it seems to work, but I am refraining from getting too wild.

I haven't thought of much so far that I don't have and want that $5 off makes hot.

In CA, the discount is on the pretax amount. I tried getting a $4.99 item and the coupon did not work. The guy at the register did not offer to mark it up and said I needed to get something else.

I've been to 3 stores so far today during my travels. Stocking up on screwdrivers, wrenches, etc. Going back tonight for more.

It has to be on pretax amount and it happens nationwide. Can't discount tax.

Personally, I wouldn't mark an item up hight just so that someone can save the money. Thats theft on my part and I'll be god damed if I going to lose my job over it

The coupon won't work on items not within the correct "division", in other words it has to be a tool or lawn & garden type item. The trickle charger I bought yesterday would not work as they said it was "automotive". At another store they changed the trouble light I bought from "electrical" to "lawn & garden" and it worked.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I picked up my Hansen trays about a month back and need to fill them in. I can't afford to fill them in at $5 a socket but when I can pick up an 11mm deepwell and carpenter's pencil for 32 cents, it is doable. I will be going again tonight with another coupon to get the rest. Also, My local Sears did not have a 20mm deepwell 3/8" socket nor did they have a place for it. It jumped from 19mm to 21mm. Where can I get one?

Used another 6 coupons today (3 each at 2 diff registers). Nobody seems to care but I've been avoiding using more than 1 at a time in the tools dept cause I'd rather the managers there not hate me. (warranty issues, etc).

I picked up only two 8.50 swivel sockets but plan to go get the rest of the set and then get a handful of normal sockets. One lady gave me the coupon back so I went on to another register. It's so busy nobody really cares.

You didn't miss it yet. I think it's good until around January 22. I got a full set of metric nut drivers, assorted 1/4 and 3/8 torx, screwdriver and hex sockets, 6 point combo 6pt wrenches, a couple punches, and a couple screwdrivers. Ended up paying like $1.50 each for the nut drivers and wrenches, and around 50 cents each for the other stuff. I printed another 30 coupons and plan on going back tomorrow.

My local Sears cut it off today saying they have to be "original" coupons, not print-offs. They would not accept them and I did not want to get in too big of an argument. They said they were for Craftsman Club members (which I am) and they had to be the ones from the mail. They showed me some e-mail from their brass to that effect.

We are almost all Craftsman club members, has anyone gotten one of these coupons?

I have a pocketful just in case.

If they refuse it, I am thinking of asking them to produce a coupon that isn't printed the same as mine is.
