It seems kind of strange to me. If the barcode actually works to deduct $5.00 off the purchase, it must have been generated by someone with a knowledge of Sears POS systems.

If it is a fake, and corporate is aware of it, how come it's still available for download from the Sears site?

LOL you are pushover and deserve to be harassed by the police. If the coupons are serialized then why do they are all work? If the coupons emailed were unique then why is there a coupon on Sears.com? Why is there TWO coupons on Sears.com that both have the SAME bar code? This approves your argument moot.

You say "some website" like you getting this from Google or some non-Sears counterfeit website. It's from SEARS! So Sears creates fakes coupons then calls the police when you use them? LOL that would be entrapment. Stop spreading ignorance.

Ummm... If it's on the Sears web site how is it fake??????? If it's fake why does it scan correctly?? Sounds like someone is mad because they had a problem trying to use one.

Highly unlikely the coupons are fake, mishandled within Sears, highly likely, not intended for distribution to the general public at this time, highly likely, am I going back on Wednesday to get the wrenches that were out of stock, highly likely.

If Sears wanted it stopped they need do nothing more than say, no when its presented.

The file is on the sears.com servers. If you backtrack the directory structure in the posted link, you will get "permission denied" errors on the parent directories. This means they do exist on that server, but are not available for public access.

If they did not exist, it would be a 404 "Not found" error instead.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, partsman, but I have a feeling that your local Sears management and law enforcement owe you an apology.

I'm sure Sears has plenty of IT admins whose chains can be jerked on Christmas Eve to resolve problems with the website, such as to remove a file that shouldn't be there. The file is still there, so.....?

Other than answering a few basic questions, why would you spend more than 5 minutes?

Q) Where did you get those coupons?
A) Sears.com

Q) Why did you have 15 of them?
A) Coupon has no restrictions on how many you print or use.

Q) Please come with us while we doddle around and ask more questions?
A) We can talk at the register, I have 15 more coupons to use.

This thread is hilarious. Harassed by the police, calling out ring leaders, stealing/debauchery abound. Even the innocence of a child was supposedly corrupted. All on Christmas eve. I love it! This is too funny.

I am eagerly awaiting my future purchases with the coupon and am glad I save my hard earned money in the process. Can't wait till Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,.........everyday until Jan.22. Woohoo.

I just made a list of stuff I need that was out of stock or to finish up all my sets. I plan to use at least 30 more coupons after Christmas. I'll probably end up using more than that though.

a real coupon does not give the same upc coads every coupon is numbered they track them how many printed how many used, a real coupon is emailed or mailed to you not just hanging on a website.

False. First of all coupons can either be individualized IE have a unique barcode and can only be used once. Clearly that is not the case for this coupon as many of us have personally used the coupon more than one time--if they were unique, it would give an error on the 2nd use. Second, tons and tons and tons of coupons have the same barcode that basically just tells the computer "If total contains >$5 worth of tools (dept 9), then deduct $5 from total" and you're good to go.

Sears' mistake is in the language of the coupon: they should stipulate one per customer or one per family or one per address, one per purchase simply limits coupon use to one per transaction which is what most people have been doing. The final tricky part of the coupon and one which I'm sure was intended to prevent overuse is the "no copies" clause. Clearly this clause is not applicable so if you are printing it directly from the website you are not making "copies" per se but you are still reproducing the coupon as many times as you like. No copies would effectively halt the use of a glossy coupon that came in a mailer or something, but not an online printable coupon.

I'll stay here in my local area and keep using them thanks.

I'll only be doing them two at a time from now on, too much hassle. I wish I had nice cashiers who will do 10 at each rng up like some of you have. I'm glad I have these legal coupons from sears to use. If they are fake then sears should be responsible for the losses, not me. I'll keep stopping in every so often to pick up a thing or two.

If this coupon, stored on Sears.com servers, is fake and I get arrested for its use, I'd be happy to call my lawyer and explain how Sears is trying to entrap me.

they work fine...used 3 last night and the wife used one...printed on the same printer at the same time, all the same code, it rings up as a misc discount, all the cashiers looked at it to verify it was for"tools" and that was it

Exactly.

Sounds like individual store owners are getting pissy around the holiday and lying to employees by saying it's a fake. I have screen captures and I'll print out some copies with the address on the bottom too.

Wouldn't it be funny if the purpose of the coupon was some kind of "sorry we messed up" generic apology thing Sears planned to allow employees to print and hand out during the chaos of returns starting Wednesday?

Coupon has been out for a week, if Sears didn't like what was going on, it would be changed or pulled.

Game on! I did a screen print of the coupon this morning showing it still on their website and proved to them that I am a Craftsman Club member. Manager signed off on the screen print and I have already used 8 coupons (with more to come later). I'm not buying many expensive things, but did buy a screw extraction kit to fix my front door lock that I rounded off the screw in.

I plan on hitting them heavy this week for ******* me off about saying I could not use the coupon...:rocker:

Just being curious, where exactly is the coupon on the Sears website? I've seen the PDF file string, so I know it comes off the Sears server. But where is the coupon on the website?

The smoking gun of propriety, a direct link to the coupon from anyplace else related to Sears is missing. Sears are hep cats wise to ways of the Al Gore information highway, and they know most people look for a coupon via google, like, Sears $5 off coupon, which returns the location of the coupon on Sears web site, and well as every other publicly searchable occurrence.

Other likely possibility is that Sears intended to send links to this coupon via email or snail mail as some kind of reward, and now thats its public decided not to restrict it.

Fact is we still don't know why Sears is doing this, or allowing it to continue.

Went today to buy the Craftsman offset handle flex ratchet and tried to use the coupn -- they refused it. The manager had posted a flyer on the register and all staff were required to refuse the coupon. So much for Sears' advertising and customer service.

What a bunch of BS --

Also there is someone there you can report to if the coupon wont fly at your local store. I've used about 20 in the same store no problems yet.

So I found a short line in housewares today....ran about 4-5 transactions thru the system, and my wife walked out of the store with the first half of the purchases to head over to some play area with my daughter...I had about another 6 to go and the lady ringing me up had no problems, then a manager looks over her shoulder to see what she was doing, then proceeds to chew me out about the 'forgery'. So I show them the link, the screen shot, etc. and she shows me a memo from corporate telling all store not to honor these coupons... because they were copies.....so she made the lady void out the 3 transactions, and asked me to leave the store.....nice...real nice....

I just printed out another 6 from that link I posted. I need 8 1/2" drive sockets. I hope I can get through with them... I feel like I am cheating them but I'm not, they posted the damn coupon.

I used at least 10 of them today. I had it out with the store manager too. Once I showed him the print-out from SEARS WEBSITE, he had no more argument. If needed, I would have ran it all the way up their flagpole for false advertising. It is on a public website, with public acccess and has no limitations that I can see as far as "1 per customer", "1 per day", etc. Therefore, they are fair game if you ask them to ring the items as separate purchases.

In addition, since they made it a downloadable .pdf file, there is NO way to restrict. Their biggest mistake (in my opinion) was to leave the "good til" date of 1/22/08. It probably should have been until only 12/31 or something like that.

Reality is I have spent additional money on other non-qualifiying items so I do not feel guilty about THEIR generosity in this regard.

All you guys running multiple transactions through one register should split them up if you get nailed. Run one a day or something per store. You're bound to cause a stir if you hand them a stack of coupons.

I just don't understand how they can get away with saying the coupons are "forged"...this is total BS.

I hate to reiterate this ****, but it just makes me mad that their saying this YET the coupon is STILL on the website. As far as I'm concerned, providing a coupon to people and then telling them they can't use it is false advertising, is it? Any lawyers in the house??

How are you printing out the coupon from the site? With the address showing?

You can by having your browser open with the pdf showing within the browser and taking a screenshot.

Good idea. Maybe I will even bring my Window Mobile phone and bring it up on the website, if needed.

Yes, I did a screen shot of their website open showing the .pdf coupon in the center. I have the time showing on my laptop. If you are using a laptop, press the FN (function) key and the print screen key (mine is shared with my Insert key). This copies it to your clipboard which you can then paste (Ctrl-V) into a Word document to print it.

It's been out in the public too long now...with too many of us having the .pdf file saved to print as many coupons that we want...no real way in my opinion for Sears to cut it off before the 01/22 date. They can remove it from their site, but we can still print them from the .pdf file.

I am not buying the tools to re-sell, or even multiples. Everything I have bought with the coupons have been for my own use and I have tried to not be too abnoxious about it - other than having the store manager sign off on the screen print saying I could use them. :)

Just got home from another Sears run. They were really slow and I used five or six coupons all at the same register with the same high school aged kid ringing me up. No problems at all. Used about five coupons on Xmas eve with no problems at the same store. I think im out about $15. This is making building my in car tool kit very affordable. I planned on raiding Harbor Freight for the tools I wanted in there, but this is a much better bang for the buck. Only problem is I have four carpenter's pencils and had to run to my car to grab one cause they are all out today. I paid for the same pencil two times tonight.

just got home from sears. while my wife shopped for other stuff at the mall....I used 5 coupons...not at the same time...and made out like a bandit. I'm out 18 cents. The girl at the counter never even looked at the coupon she just scanned it and smiled at me.

An old Kmart, now Sears Essentials is where I stopped tonight, actually a better selection of tools than the local Sears and coupons worked fine. I filled out my smaller 6 pt combo wrenches, and got the last couple flex sockets I think I need. I plan to keep a couple in my pocket, but seems like I am about done.

I went to each counter today and asked them to look over the coupon and verify that I can do several single transactions at the same time. Noth occasions said yes and I did two so I wouldn't be too obnoxious.

The more up front with them you are the more they'll be cool because you are not trying to sneak around etc. I'll do 3-4 at a time tomorrow. I'll have my full set of 1/2 sockets.

I got a few plastic clamps from their holiday dollar selection and will add a few companion screwdrivers for a dollar each as well. .
