You guys down in the US get all the good stuff.

Sears had a 50 - 70 % off wrench and plier set sale this past weekend. I went hunting for some great tool deals ( I really wanted those re badged Knipex cobra pliers and some pro series line wrenches ) . I hit three stores and no luck.

It is a shame that the selection of Craftsman tools in Canada is so weak compared to what is available in the US. Almost no pro series anything. :headscrat

Tool selection at the local Sears is pretty good; customer service and employee knowledge on the other hand is sorely lacking .. :(

I agree, Sears Canada's hand tool selection is miserable in selection; it's almost a joke. What you find is a lot of offshore Danaher and Stanley goodness. I'm not certain but, I think many tools used to come from Japanese tool makers--I'd rather prefer that.

The one near me is not to bad. Pretty good selection but do not ask for anything not on the shelf. That seems to confuse them rather quickly. We cannot even get the RHFT ratchets up here. But they did have all those pliers on sale. Which set were you looking for?

Luckily I have family in the US so I just order online and have it shipped to them. :)

with the money is almost the same why don't they just have the same products from the US up there, I'm sure most Canadians would rather have a US made tool over a chinco import

Canada eh
I make the rounds of about 5 sears stores. Never buy much but the occasional nos EE or V series piece. Usually the clerk will look at the tag and say where did you find this? I remember going into sears with my dad back in the early 70's to buy tools. The guys working there then seemed to know their stuff.

One thing I could never understand is why you can't buy a set of metric nut drivers in sears up here but they sell them in the States.

KMS in BC is getting to be as bad as Princess Auto with their cheep china made tools. Power fist anyone hahaha.

Where are you guys in Canada getting your stuff ?? Canadian Tire still has some nice tools in their Maximum line if you pick and choose.

Two distributors that sell some decent stuff are

g2sequip.ca
autoforce.ca

Neither sell to end users so you have to call and ask for a retailer in your area. g2s appears to have better prices.

There's also babcotools.ca . They do mail order, but they're sort of like costco. You have to buy a membership to get member pricing, but they'll also sell to nonmembers at a markup. Free shipping on orders over $150. They also appear to have the best prices for SK stuff.

Yeah, KMS does have quite a bit of cheap Chinese tools on their racks, but I have seen Bondhus and the odd Knipex plier, Stahlwille wrench set, J.H. Williams ratcheting screwdriver...but they are really marked up high. Look at the surplus section in back, too. I've found K-D and Easco wrenches, Wright sockets, and Mayhew punches for cheap.

Here's just an impromtu list of businesses in the Metro Vancouver area that I copy-pasted from my list of "sources of good tools". The only experience I have with the following businesses is Raeside Equipment to purchase some Grip-on products. Also keep in mind that some have other branches in different municipalities, so check their websites for the closest ones to you.

Our local auto parts supplier carries the G2 catalog. Lots of good stuff in there like Knipex and Bonhus
Another place I look is at the borg stores. If you check the back of the racks you can usually find some goodies. Example would be getting a Bahco hacksaw made in Sweden rather then the Asian version thats at the front of the display. I am also still picking up pre Irwin vice grips and USA made files.

Cdn Tire does have some good tools/deals but you have to be patient and wait for their sales.

I found that i can order hazet tools from Apex here in town they also carry Gary hand tools as well, i kind of like both. I have more gray then hazet though. I find i can get more styles of wrenches from hazet then any other brand besides Snap On and they are cheaper as well(in price) then Snap on. So screw sears, i got some of there raised panel wrenches and i bent the jaw on the the 3/4" first time i used it, ended up taking the hole set back :(

Sears does have a very bad selection of tools here, but enough to snooparound for some time. I try very, very hard to avoid Canadian Tire, though. I haven't bought much there, but I can't remember ever walking away with something that said Mastercraft on it and not regretting buying it. Their wrenches are supposed to be good but I don't care, I'll get a SO set and never have to get another one. I just hate the service there, and anyone who sells Jobmate doesn't deserve my money anyway. Just my .02.:)

Jobmate is trash for sure.

You should give the Mastercraft maximum sockets and maximum wrenches a shot though. I beat the living **** out of the sockets on my 1/2 inch impact and even use a reducer to stuff 3/8 and 1/4 inch sockets on there. I have never had a mastercraft socket fail. I use these every day at work. I do not know who makes them but they take a licking.

There mastercraft gear wrenches are "Gearwrench" brand and are tough. Ill put a extension on my 10mm and seize it solid , then just wack it on the concrete floor and it runs like new again. Never had a failure. We go through 13mm blue point gear wrenches often.

I live 30 minutes from Niagara Falls New York, so I often go to Sears there. My wife wonders why I never complain about taking her shopping in the States. You guys are right; the selection of tools is awesome. I only had to return a wrench once, no problems at all! We usually go for dinner, then shop, stop for a few drinks and head home. By the time we reach the boarder, it’s about midnight and the guards never usually give us a hassle!:canada2:

The biggest suprise to me was the selection at the Former Eaton Centre, or Sears Centre, whatever you call it. Anyhow their tool section is a joke, the store is huge! Sears Canada has the worst tool selection.
