Sears Clearance Seems a little high

I'm always cautious of anything Sears puts on clearance. Especially on the website since it is so ill managed.

The only true "clearance" item I have ever found worth it from Sears was when they were closing out and no longer selling Bosch power tools and I got two cordless Bosch #34614 1/2" 14.4v drills (along with the battery and charger for each) new for $32.00 ea. in the markdown bin (but no carrying case).

that works out to around 1300 a set...not super bad, its expensive to cut out all the foam

We pay more for that one wrench in red tape alone then Sears is selling it for.

Yes. It's handy but, not awesome.

They've been made by a host of companies over the years. $2500-$3000 is the usual governement price. Only 51% of kits have to be US made these days.

I just don't know what to say.

I have never broken or stripped a combination wrench, even when I've hooked one wrench on to another wrench to get more leverage. I'm using traditional, non-polished Craftsman wrenches.

I think that my six point and twelve point, SAE and Metric sets, all four, cost me less than this single wrench did before clearance.

I asked the salesman at the local Sears store why they will take a set of 8 hex keys, where ONE IS MISSING from the package and only mark it down 10% on the clearance rack. I said to him, "Heck. It's missing 12.5% of the keys. How is that only good for 10% off?"

He told me that people snap stuff up off their clearance rack so fast that they don't need to mark it down much.

People are stupid.

I just had a good "Sears Clearance Experience" yesterday. For at least the past month, they've had their Craftsman Professional 1/2" shank carbide router bits on the pegboard right next to the clearance items. Instead of having the pink clearance pricetag on the bits, they had a regular-looking pricetag with prices ranging from $10 to $20, depending on the bit profile. I knew from previous experience that these bits used to be priced between $20 and $50 each.

Yesterady I noticed one of those stations where you can scan your own items to check the price. Well, all of these bits were in the computer for about 20% of the prices they were marked. So I bought them all....15 bits for less than $50 (Most were either $1.97 or $2.97). I'll keep most and give the extras to some woodworker friends.

I bet if they had had the pink clearance price on them originally (between $10 and $20) that most would have sold for those higher prices. No wonder they are in financial trouble.
