It's the raise the price to Full Retail and take 20% off..
When you could have bought it cheaper before they were closing the store.

Exactly what happened when the Sears Hardware by me closed in October. People were walking around with loaded carts. I could not understand why, the store was basically empty after the 30% off sale.

I have to say it is sad to hear more American workers being unemployed, another vacant building on the way, and tool warranty might be gone or a longer drive to get it.

Do you think Sears will be under new ownership in the future, continue to run scaled down in size, or close all together.

Sadly, after the Kmart merger, Sears and Kmart both lost their identities. I fear that now it is so far gone, some day soon, Sears and Kmart will both be just memories

I can't see them as anything but a memory. It's sad, but I really think in a year or so they'll be gone. It's a slow painful death, part of me just says cut the cord already.

Sears will be nothing more than a mustard fart in the wind. The Craftsman name will be sold and you will see a very low quality banner on Harbor Freight stating....

" NOW SELLING CRAFTSMAN!!!!!!!!!!! "

What is a mustard fart in the wind, and how does it relate to a department store?

A fart in the wind doesn't last long and neither will the once proud Craftsman name. :)

Maybe the Sears employees can apply at Dunder Mifflin Paper Co..

Do mustard farts really smell up the place even though they are out in the wind? Whoever is down wind gets blasted while the others don't get phased from it?

I hope they aren't like mustard gas in WW1.

That *****, it is one of the Sears I use. The local Sears closed last year. Hopefully they keep The one in Big Flats NY open for a while.

They will clean out the back room. There is the possibility of some American made craftsman lurking in the back. Worth a look.

There is supposed to be a global ban on WMD's and it is where Iraq really screwed up by using them on people.

Need I say more?”

I believe the guy with the ******* in his picture is referring generally to Iraqi use of chemical weapons during the Iran-Iraq War and the Al-Anfal Campaign.

Bashing Sears, for not having their act together, is a display of ignorance, little more. IMO.

If we actually look around, we'll see that most traditional "brick-and-mortar" stores, are already gone, on the rocks, or at least struggling, to compete with the global discount Internet economy.

Even giants like Walmart, are feeling the pinch, competing with Amazon, who, if anyone remembers that far back, started out selling books over the Internet, without a lot of success.

Sears and Kmart could have done things a little different, but in the end, it really would not have mattered.

The competition in tool sales looks fierce. Can anyone find a better deal on a set of 1/4" drive sockets than the Stanley rails sold at Lowe's? I think you can buy a rail at HF for $8 with a coupon. Where can you find a cheaper set? Sears has had so much competition chopping away at them to the point I have wondered how they stayed in business this long. Sometimes I wonder how all of them stay in business especially with rails of sockets for less than $10 plus tax.

Last time I was there they had a couple of the 90s-00s USA 3/4" drive ratchets available for exchange. Everything on the floor was all china, but I bet there are still some refurbished USA ratchets and possibly some kits lurking for them. I wanted a 3/4" drive kit, but the guy couldn't find them, said the regular guy may know were they are?. That was less then a year ago, so it may be worth a look if your in need of a kit, or to swap a ratchet. Maybe you can swap a China for a USA refurb:evil:

visited nearly empty closing Sears in western PA today. everything 60% off. math is a little off.

Kenmore Elite front load washer, originally $1729, yours today for $929

visited a Sears 20 miles away. same washer originally $1429, yours today for $899.

That is what makes Sears really frustrating sometimes. The prices are like watching the stock market. Up down, up down, down up, down down down, up up up!

You know, I have watched some Sears employees really work hard at trying to keep a good customer base coming in and buying from them. Then there are some employees that do not have a clue of what building a customer base is. It is a shame to have watched so many work so hard and have their jobs to end.

It was sad seeing the Sears I bought tools at for 15 years turn into a ghost town.

Then I bought a Craftsman ratcheting screwdriver and the LED light broke the first time I used it so I say good riddance. I gave Craftsman a second chance because I can no longer afford Snap On.

As mentioned in this thread already, you get get the same tool or appliance at 6 different stores or online. Oversaturation of brick and mortar stores and the rise of Amazon killed them. The same sears had some great employees 10 years ago.

A Sears near me is closing. I went in just to see if there were any deals I couldn't pass up. Even at 30% off most of their selection was still priced higher than it is online. And the tools were already picked over, basically the only stuff left was the gimmicky stuff or oddball sizes - like huge(over 1 1/2") SAE dbe wrenches.

The mall there had already announced that they have a clothing store set to replace Sears. And then this week they announced that JC Penny is closing there too.
