I ordered 9 of the craftsman industrial wrenches at a good deal thanks to the thread in the hot deals sections. Box came with holes in almost every corner of the box, non sticking tape, and generally smushed :(. To no surprise only 4 wrenches were inside with the package list that had all checked off inside.

To make it worse Sears customer service wants UPS to come to my house pick up the box with contents and try to find the missing wrenches back at the UPS warehouse. As if to say the crappy package job was UPS's fault.

I was told if the wrenches are not found I will get a refund for all the wrenches. Which at this point is ok. Just ***** to miss the deal and knowing I'm going to waste hours resolving this.

I received a similar box but my order was for 28 sockets. A 1/2" drive 3/8" socket was missing but it was checked off on the packing slip as shipped. I called them and they refunded the price of the socket and sent me another for free. As bad as the box looked, I was surprised only one socket had slipped out.

Must be really hit or miss. My box that had 19 wrenches was in good condition and wasn't packed any better than anyone else's.

I know the guys at UPS aren't easy on the boxes, which is why most companies pack stuff well to protect their product. If they were easier on the boxes, I'm sure the gear would show up all together.

I'd like to think the slack packing is because they're packaging their clearance industrial stock but I've read too many horror stories to think that (not that it would excuse it).

I've just shaken my head when some boxes arrive. It's hard to believe the person packing it can call it their job and sleep at night. Do the people they hire never think about what goes on when it leaves their hands.

You sir need to get out more. For some people a job is just a job and the minimum is all that is required. Thus far I have never seen "Give a damn" on a job application.

I recently ordered a toolbox set from Sears online and it was a horrible experience.. they said things were in stock for pickup at store when they weren't, gave wrong pickup times, called me to verify my order and kept me on the phone even though I was going in person to pick up the items (with ID)… and to top it off, the Sears employees that were supposed to load the items were total jerks and didn't listen to how I wanted the items loaded (for ease of handling the big tool boxes when I got home).

The whole process could have been 10X simpler and made me wonder about the company as a whole if they can mess something as simple as that up. :wtf:

sears has always shipping me things in that shape or worse. its happened so much i will not ship things to my house anymore no matter how good the deal is. if i cant pick up in store i wont buy it and there CS over the phone or chat is a joke at best. sad it has come to this but i just go in store and get what i need. no problems. if they dont have it in stock i say **** it and move on. kinda helps in the long run as it doesnt make me spend as much anymore lol

I've ordered a ton of stuff from Sears over the years and it always arrives poorly packed like the OP's, but I've been lucky and never had anything missing. It probably helps that their warehouse is pretty close, so UPS only has their hands on the stuff for a day max.

Exactly. I worked receiving at night in a Sears for a few months to help make ends meet. They treat their employees poorly, pay terribly, and have about as outdated a system as you can imagine when it comes to online orders (next time you pick an order up in store, see if the employee is stuck using a pen on one of those 20yr+ old touch screens).

All the internet orders just ping from store to store until someone accepts it. They pull it from the shelf, throw it in whatever box hasn't been thrown in the compactor and toss in any packing material laying around.

It's a **** job, nobody wants to be there and all the employees are just going day to day with that feeling of impending doom, waiting for Sears to finally shut down. Add pissy customers on top of it, and throwing your back out loading fridges and toolboxes for minimum wage. It's the classic "work just hard enough not to get fired" mentality.

It's no excuse for the bad packing job so many do, I made a point to do a good job since I sell and ship online regularly, but most just couldn't care less. I was only there for a few months, then made a point to get back into doing side work, since even that being occasional paid better. I'd rather be broke then spend my nights at a depressing job with unhappy people.

I had a smaller but similar style box shipped from Sears some years ago. I ordered a nice bit socket set from the catalog and every piece was rolling around loose in this shoebox sized box, with I believe, an air bag and packing slip. Couldn't believe it.

It was all there, but you think maybe Sears would corral those sockets and wrenches in some type of bag and then place them in the box.

After reading the new above post things now add up.

my sears has a computer when you walk in. it scans your order number i think it is (been awhile lol) and then someone brings your item out to you asap. if its big they will cart it to your car and help you if you need.

They all have those. I was actually talking about the crappy hand-held devices the employees are stuck with (the ones that they either check your receipt/ID and then scan the tag with).

There is a reason so many people get those $5 off tags, they rarely beep when a customer comes in for pickup.:lol_hitti

Sears won't update them with a newer system because... well, we all know how well they're doing nowadays...

Holy guacamole.. :wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf:

Someone picked up one of my orders. I had it sitting there for a while since I knew I was gonna order something soon and it was only one wrench (with points it costed me $0.26) and so I figured I'd just hold off for a week or two until I got the other thing I wanted.

Just wrote them an e-mail. I doubt they'll refund me or give me the item.. thank goodness I just got the one but seriously?

I had this happen last week. I ordered 22 sockets and found one missing after one side of the box, corner to corner, was split open. I started a chat session online the same night and was informed they were going to refund the price of the missing socket. I've been lucky with not having any issues with having to call UPS back. I'm sure because it's only been one item, but I'd hate to deal with that for a large order. So far so good and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed on future orders with them.

My mother bought me the Craftsman 107 pc. Tap and Die Set for Xmas last year and had it shipped to her from Sears. When i got it, the hinges of the boxes were snapped off cleanly, and the molded plastic top had actually cracked.

I just brought it into my local Sears, with the gift receipt, and was lucky enough that they had one in the back room, and swapped them out.

Same hear. I was doing the jig when all of the tools I order where in mine for the 3 orders I placed.

Two of the three orders I received were in boxes that looked like they were shipped to the Ukraine, got into a fight with the Russian troops there, and then was mailed back to the US.

The third package was in a double lined bubble pack envelope. Not sure why the change of packing. Maybe I got lucky.

Sorry to hear about the hassle.

Last package I got from Sears had a pretty large hole in the corner. I picked it up off my porch and left a trail of wrenches behind me as I walked into my house. I just knew that half of what I ordered had to be missing, but to my surprise, everything was present and accounted for. My hat is off to UPS, which is another surprise for me, for dealing with that **** packing job by Sears.

I had this same issue with Amazon, however they were really great and got the replacement screwdriver out in the mail the same day. No questions asked, which is a big reason I shop with Amazon. They also offered to give me a refund ($20) but I declined as I really wanted the item.

it's been that way for a while, when i was 18, i worked at a sears in town that was going dead (died a couple years after i left for another job), i was just graduating high school and had no idea what i wanted to do yet so it wasn't a travesty that i was making just above minimum wage working in their warehouse. the only job duties we had were to load orders into peoples cars and trucks, tie stuff down, unload the trucks, and assemble the tough to assemble displays inside. and we treated it like the job it was, we would drink and party on the weekends, come in hungover, and since our warehouse was detached from the store, we could always see when a supervisor was coming to check on things and could easily stop our game of shuffleboards/darts/ etc whatever we happened to feel like playing at the time so we could look like we were cleaning and whatnot.

cake job, cake work, and it paid enough to drink and pay for gas to get around, not much else you can ask for from a job like that. i will say though that it is still no excuse for treating someone else's property poorly. we never destroyed anything, we didn't mistreat someones box and package after it showe dup on our little screen that we had someone coming to a pickup, or had to box something up to get it sent out. it was 10 minutes out of our workday in between the nothing else we were doing so it wasn't like people went out of their way to be dicks.

if somebody is just plain packaging stuff wrong, then i'd blame it more on the person themselves or poor training for people who really have no clue, and less that they get paid next to nothing.... it's not a college education level job, it's a job that requires manual labor that someone could do after 2 days of training from the street. you get out what you put into it. and increasing the pay would only lure in more lazy people who want to get paid good for doing next to nothing.

it's also definitely not a job to stay in forever, it's exactly what it looked like. a job for a bunch of 17-24s to go to for 6-8 hours a day or less, make a few bucks while going to school or doing your thing. and find something better and move on and pass the torch to the next kid just graduating that needs to get started on his resume.

edit: it seems like a rant, and maybe it is, but i feel there are too many people who are getting started in this world who think that they are entitled to a cushy desk job with 9-5 hours because they spent 2-3 years in college, or even worse, the ones who don't put any time in anything and think that because they show up to work they should get 15 an hour for standing in one spot and not having any real responsibilities. work is what you put in, not what they tell you you need to do. only the extremely lucky make it in life putting in the bare minimum every day, and the hard working and dedicated people who care are the ones who end up where they want to be in 20 years.

I have always hated how Sears ships wrench sets. I've ordered nice full polished sets that are all scratched up since they are just thrown together in a box. I know they get scratched up over time, but it's nice to get something new and actually look new.

I recently ordered a set of deep offset wrenches (rebranded SK's) and I opened the box and inside was a violin but no wrenches!!

They told me to keep the fiddle and sent me another set of wrenches.

Unfortunately it wasn't a Stratovarious.

I sold the fiddle on CL to a first year high school music student.

I still don't undertstand how those idiots could mistake a violin for wrenches:confused:

I was done with Sears many years ago. Bait-and-switch retail tactics, together with fraud in the auto repair department was reason enough, but there's still more...

It's a variation on a one-wrong-digit theme.
Supposedly true story- an RAF storesperson out in the Far East ordered a widget, the supplier said it would take some time, but yeah, ok it will be with you. (This was after a couple of checks back and forth about the numbering)
Six months later, the widget arrived - a complete wing section for a bomber.
Not the boxes of shoe nails or some other small hardware that had supposedly been ordered.
I've no doubt other armed forces have the same story.

This I can attest to. I was a manager there for 4 years and it really is pretty insane what I would see guys doing. None of them have any fear of discipline because the Teamsters really have UPS by the you know what, and therefor the associates do WHATEVER they want with no concern for the customer. It really is sad.
