I ordered $2k between 4 $500 giftcards. Paid with a PayPal balance and have gotten confirmations for the orders but no GC yet in 90 minutes of waiting. Hoping this one flies true. SLick Deals is over 100 pages on this topic

Whatchu gonna buy? Curious....

Wasn't there one of these too good to be true deals on some Amazon seller a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure they have some clause on their webiste if you can find it that lets them off the hook in the event of a pricing mistake.

At Sears, 10% off is a sale; 50% off is a mistake.

i bought some gift cards, redeemed them immediately, then bought some stuff and got the order confirmation for the stuff i bought for in store pickup -so to me it looks like a done deal.

What I don't get is how some people got their codes already and some (like me) didn't. Doesn't give me high hopes.

Could be just how things replicate. They put in the fix and due to replication among the servers, it takes time to make the change across the board. I would assume they have a pretty beefy web infrastructure so changes take a little while.

Merely a guess...

I apologize in advance for any headaches this "deal" gives you guys. Thought it was worth the potential benefit in telling you guys.

Haven't gotten mine yet either but the credit card was charged almost two hours ago. Either way, it was worth the attempt just to see the disaster that is Sears. Shame too, I was hoping to use mine to pick up the new premium ratchets.

I'd say you have a better chance than the rest of us.

To identify and cancel items purchased with gift cards will likely be much more of a challenge than for them to cancel gift cards that haven't gone out yet.

Dang I missed out on this one. From sick deals...

UPDATE AT 1250 AM on 12/27/2010>>>>AGAIN AT 106AM SINCE IT LOOKS LIKE MIKEJONES DELETED MY UPDATE<<<<<
In what maybe one of the most epic online store failures...Direct info from sears.com customer service via phone call to 1-800-697-3277
It might make you mad to hear the truth but here it is....I just got off the phone with the folks at sears.com and they are well aware of what's up...Since it's been quite a while since the deal died, calling wasn't going to hurt anything at this point.

If your transaction already went through and you used your gift card, it appears they are going to allow you to win on this deal.

If your transaction has not been processed, they are going to offer you the chance to cancel the order or pay the full face value.

If your transaction has processed but you haven't used the gift card, they are going to cancel/put your gift card on hold and offer you the chance to pay the face value or cancel the transaction.

What made this happen?

The website auto discounting system started applying the 50% off to all things that had holiday related key words. The software confused gift cards with Christmas cards...LED lights with LED TV's and other such deals.

Needless to say, Sears.com is actively working to try to reverse these ASAP….I did get the impression though that they are having to work their way through the list one at a time and contact each buyer, so it’s going to take a while to sort it out.

And they probably charged everyone's credit cards right away. If they don't contact me or provide a gift card code by tomorrow, I'll file a dispute.

You're right. They have selected items (for instance sweaters and pajamas come to mid recently) on sale often but not 50% off of everything which is almost what this deal is. With the exception of Black Friday, I mostly see a lot of 10% off power tools etc. Bigger discounts on select items but nothing that would even be close to this deal. That's why I think it's gotta be a mistake. I'll have egg on my face if it isn't and kick myself for being such a pessimist.

(Edit - I didn't see the post above stating that it was a mistake but people who used their cards already would be OK)

im just saying that based on the fact they put a wide variety (and often quite valuable items) on sale for 50% off all the time I had no reason to believe anything was amiss when I made my purchases. Surely their gross margins are in that range on most of the items they sell and I figured they made this move to bring in cash now in exchange for dumping some inventory later....pretty much a free loan for 6-12 months by the time they finally get around to paying the suppliers for the merchandise bought with the gift cards.

It looks like they are honoring card purchases up to $200 value, but nothing over... Guess I'm out of luck, although I haven't had any change in my order status in the last 12 hours.

Picked up my two sets of pro combo wrenches this morning. Saw they were not the made in USA ones so I immediately returned them and got a $200 gift card back. All's well that ends well.

To bad I missed out on this....:( On a side note Kmart (who owns Sears )did something simlar this past spring with a coupon that was put in the newspaper, it was a 50% off coupon that could be used on one item (sale or not) and the fine print didn't say that you could not copy it. Well I think everyone in Chicagoland made a millon copies, the wife and I went a few times a day to buy things, well it lasted for about a month and then they posted signs saying they would no longer take them long before they expired.Guess they like making mistakes.

What's the final word on this? Who was able to score? Only a few lucky ones like mrb or did Sears take a billion dollar loss?

Not sure yet.

I thought I was able to get in on this, but it looks like they deactivated the codes while they check each one or something like that.

Placed an order last night. Might complicate things.
