Hello, recently I noticed that sears pretty much had no empire tools left a few weeks ago. Today I went there to spend some points (got a fatmax hacksaw/recip saw blade handle for $.99) and I went to the level section and noticed that they have johnson products now. Just wanted to share.

While I have heard of both companies, I don't have much knowledge of either, but isn't Johnson a decent quality brand of measuring devices? I do recall that empire is made in the U.S., or was anyway.

If you want Johnson products you should check the HD clearance rack. Not sure if anything would be left, but they clearanced Johnson products ~2'ish months ago. I bought a couple steel rules and carpenter's squares bc I'm forever losing them like tape measures, almost wish I couldve justified a few levels to match but Ive got plenty already.

If you're looking for Empire check out HD as I noticed the ones by me have a whole new shelf section dedicated to Empire.

Both are still made in the USA. Empire is owned by tti but they say that they are going to keep them made here. I like Johnson more because I own more of their stuff. I got a old aluminum 4ft one and a matching 28" one and a probably 70s 2ft one. They are both nice though.

I've got both, and both work well for what I've used them for. I have everything from a 6' level to the line bubble level and they all seem to be accurate. It seems to be musical brands at the big box stores. I know Menard's clearanced out their Empire levels about a year or so ago, and replaced them with Johnson. Then it sounds like Home Depot did something similar with Johnson and they now carry Empire. I don't even know who Lowe's is partnering with these days as I don't shop there much anymore. I think last time I checked they were hawking Stanley levels.
