Sears Impact with Leaky Air Inlet

This vintage Made in Japan gun has been leaking air for a while and I finally got around to taking a look. The inlet valve seats against a hard plastic washer (no longer available). Considering the seal is hard plastic on hard plastic, I wonder how it ever sealed. Anyhow, can I replace the hard plastic washer with something softer or add a second washer to create a better seal? Thanks.

It sure wouldn't hurt to try. Did you teflon tape the threads? If not, that will probably solve the problem.

It is not leaking past the threads. Air is leaking thorough the inlet valve and coming out the exhaust. I looked at the classic CP gun. It has a 3 piece seal with a spacer washer (located where my hard plastic washer is), Oring and seal washer which I assume has some cushion. I believe CP made some of these old Sears guns so maybe the CP inlet valve parts will fit my gun.

There is a three digit number ending in a dot at the start if your model number, like 103.56788. A quick check on line will tell you who made your wrench. The information is easily found on line. I have gone to the manufacturer a couple of times when Sears was no help. Of course, this number system is not still used since Sears started importing everything from China. Your problem is precisely why I avoid buying Sears label items. Parts support is terrible and since they make nothing and only rebrand stuff and they have sold thousands of brands, there is no advice available from them. Stick with brands that are actually the manufacturer is at least have real parts and service. I have had several companies talk me through a repair. Never happen at Sears. Once you find out who made it, see if you can pull up a similar parts breakdown and try to order a part

Right but FP no longer makes guns and most likely did not make this one as it was imported from Japan. I did contact them but have not received a response.

Don't think so. Nothing to hold Oring in place.

I have found that e mails are often ignored by a lot of companies. Call them if possible. If the person that answers cannot solve your problem, pressing to speak to somebody more knoledgeable, often gets results. Can you post pictures? Somebody may have a good idea for a fix. There are all kinds of washers avIlable, made from all kinds of materials

Right, that is where I bought a couple orings but, as I stated in first post, washer is no longer available. Strange because inlet pintle is available. As suggested, I will try to find the right size washer made from a softer material.
