Ok, I was searching for some brake tools, and this caught my eye.

Craftsman 3 pc. Brake-Adjusting Tool Set

Set includes brake spring washer tool, a drum brake spring tool and brake adjusting spoon.

Item# 00947388000 Model# 47388

$29.99

But right next to this was the following items:

Craftsman Adjusting Brake Tool
Item# 00945496000 Model# 45496
$6.99

Craftsman Brake Spring Washer Tool
Item# 00947767000 Model# 47767
$5.99

KD Tools Bendix Drum Brake Spring Tool
(No Craftsman branded item for this)
Item# 00993931000 Model# KDS280
$8.99

The same kit item are only $22 separately.

The $29.99 doesn't seem like a deal.:headscrat

No mention of a special edition NASCAR blow molded case with rubberized handle and name personalization to justify the other $7 either.
:dunno:

Keep a keen eye fellas.

Sears isn't the only one doing this.

I have spotted it several times at Wal Mart. Most people were taught/conditioned that larger sizes lowers the price, so these companies use that to getcha.

Take a calculator shopping with you.

Yep... that is a big head scratcher for me. My Walmart sells DR Pepper 12 packs for $2.49, and 24 pack cubes for $5.99. :headscrat

It's a common practice in marketing and as the previous post sad, it's a way for the company to make more money off your back by making you think you're getting a deal.

Don't really know if it's true or not but it was told to me by one of my professors years ago who was an adamant Sears hater.

Sears got his big start in bussiness by selling watches. These watches were not the greatest of quality but they were marketed as such. Roebuck was a watch repairman so the two brokered a deal where Sears would sell the poor quality watches for a premium and then make even more money when the customer would return it for repair. I'd heard that story a few times in the past "Pre-Internet" days so I kinda give it a little more credence in belief. Snoped it years ago and found nothing.

I have been told at the State st Wally World store in Rockford Il. that I cannot use a calculator in their store and would have to leave if I continued to do so. I told them to get security and I will call the police to create a record. The ******* just stood there looking at me as I showed him that his large quantity of meat cost more per ounce that the smaller. I could do the math mentally, but that's why I bought a calculator....at that Walmart!!
He never did call security. I filled a cart, then left it with him and bought nothing.

I guess Sears has to make a buck wherever they can. It's kind of like when they have three of the same items each priced differently. That brake kit doesn't seem like that good of a deal to me. Sears used to sell a three piece brake tool kit consisting of a pair of brake sping pliers, the washer tool, and a brake adjusting spoon for $19.99. Of course, Sears also makes mistakes in the other direction too. Those Gearwrench half off sales and the recent SK clearance items come to mind. I guess I'm amazed at times that Sears continues to stay in business.

How about when any of the stores sell a "170-piece" (or any number) set of anything. They count the box/case whatever, as a piece of the set. You have to watch the grocery stores as well. Ever seen pricing like .49-cents each or 2 for a dollar? I always have that kind of item rung up separately.
