Sears never fails to disappoint me

If Kmart/Sears takes another nose dive I could see them selling Craftsman off. With all the new vendors they're practically spinning the brand off right now. And with the way the tool department has been changing the past 10 years Sears will soon be nothing but a partial line vendor themselves.

It is the ratchets with me,I put a new ratchet on the counter for a replacement and the salesperson says the refurbished ratchets are better which is full of ****.The refurbished ratchets don't hold up and fail right away.The evolve power tools,don't get the $15.00 cordless screwdriver.Nothing but a huge pile of garbage,the previous model which was a $20.00 that was discontinued was better than the evolve.

My new 3/8" RP was broke out of the box, I got a refurbished one and it has been kicking for 4+ years and been used with countless cheater pipes. In retrospect I probably should've gotten one off the shelf but it was my first ever Sears return.

IMO warranty normally should be refurbished depending on the tool brought in. I brought in my 1/2" thin profile brand new that was sticking and they replaced it with an off the shelf model. That was what I was going to ask for. However if you bring in a used one, personally, I don't feel I need to get a brand new one in return. I like the older ones anyway, the ratchets are basically the same the insides are brand new. Same as you'd get if you bought off the shelf. Just something to think about. My new 3/8" was stamped T5W I believe and the one they gave me was stamped VR.

My father's friend Dave got a refurbished ratchet for a replacement and took it back right away,IT BROKE when he used it at home right away.The refurbished ratchets use plastic gears.

The refurbs use plastic gears???
A plastic gear couldn't handle 10 pounds of torque let alone trying to loosen a lug nut. Do you have a picture of these plastic gears?

Also, how come EVERY post of yours starts off with "My father's......."?

Bolts? Depends on the vehicle. The real question is how often would you use a flarenut crowfoot wrench let alone one of those 2 sizes?

Noticed this set on the bay too, perhaps worth asking if its USA.

Snap-On has a better chance of going Bankrupt than Sears Holdings does of selling off Craftsman.

Are these decent? Don't really know much at all about KD Tools.

KD use to be a very good automotive brand. Lately they've been shut down by Danaher and simply mixed in with GW. KD as a brand is mostly dead and anything you can find that was made recently is imported. That said even if you wrench every day of your life it will be a rare moment that you'd unknowingly break a crowfoot wrench and even if you did the set is so cheap, who cares? Quality wise i'd suspect they'd be dead ringers to Matco/Armstrong.

The ratchet rebuild kits: the gears are not plastic, the quick release button is.... as are the direction levers; that being said... the ratchets are just poor quality, failure rate is high. The didn't used to be the case with that design; now the quality has really fallen off on those, sad but true!

I don't doubt that it broke right away. We all know craftsman has been going downhill. But I do doubt plastic gears, the teeth would shear instantly and even craftsman wouldn't put plastic teeth in the ratchets. Plastic levers and quick release buttons I can see being plastic.

I've been told a lot of things, but I don't come on here posting everything I've been told, it would make me look stupid if I believed everything I was told and re posted it all the time.

They don't use plastic gears for petes sake. That guy says that in every thread that mentions Craftsman or Sears. You could start a thread about Craftsman air compressors and he'll stop in to inform everybody about that plastic gear nonsense. Next it'll be the replacement wrenches are made of wood.
