Dropped by sears to pick up a closeout punching bag I bought online for pick up when I decided to walk through the tool department before heading to pick up area. I"m glad I did because I stumbled across a bin in the sales floor isle filled with misc clearance tools with purple sticker price tags and a sign stating that all purple priced tag item were to 75% off stickered price.

I ended up picking up a digital torque wrench for $37.00! :bounce:
Two 19 piece universal socket wrench sets for $12.49 each! :D
A 104 pc max axess socket wrench set for $18.79.! :rocker:

The bin was filled with different sized regular, ratchet wrenches, drill bits and other things. All with purple tags. I was stocked at finding the 19 piece sets in the bin so I looked around the department for other stuff with purple tags and sure enough I found the torque wrench and the max kit separate isles. I had a guy unlock them for me and as he rang me up I asked why the deep discount and he said that they were trying to push clearance inventory out to make way for new assortments.

Come to think about it. I did notice some small areas in the tool department that had many clearance labels and I also noticed that when I check my local add online, there were many clearance tools listed for my store so I guess it makes sense that they are pushing them out of inventory. I'm not sure if it's a company imitative or localized thing but I thought it was worth sharing the info in case your local store was doing a clearance blow out like mine:dunno:

A couple of stores in my area have similar clearance bins. The best I have seen so far is 50% off the green tag price. They are greatly reducing the number of open stock wrenches they carry.

Yes I would like to know also Please :)

Looks like it may be this one.

Craftsman Electronic Torque Wrench, 3/8 in. Drive
Item# 00947711000 | Model# 47711

or this one

Craftsman Electronic Torque Wrench, 1/2 in. Drive
Item# 00947712000 | Model# 47712

http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-...p-00947711000P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3

http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-...0P?prdNo=7&blockNo=7&blockType=G7#reviewsWrap

But before you get too excited read the crappy reviews. If you do get it test the hell out of it the first 90 days. Quality control did not seem the best so if you get a good one you may be okay but if you get a bad one......

This one that has a much lower regular price and is on sale right now has much better reviews.

What is the item number of the digital torque wrench in the red case?

Torque wrench model number is Model# 47711.

It's the first link Jonathan75 posted (3/8 in drive)

I read through the review and it look like i'm taking a chance on this model but to be honest I not to worried considering what I paid.

I'm going to take this reviewers advice and perform a bit of water proofing.

"I just bought two of these (3/8 and 1/2). And after reading some bad reviews here, I thought I have to find the reason. So I completely disassembled them before I even use them. And here is what I found: Craftsman didn't do any water/weather proof on these wrenches at all! Maybe because they are not in electronics business so they don't have a clue? You have to water/weather proof any electronics you plan to use in a none controlled environment (outdoor/garage). Otherwise, moisture/water will eventually get into it and destroy it! So here is what I did to them: take out the circuit board and conformal coat the whole board (cover up the LCD); when reassemble, use plenty of RTV to seal all the gaps around the electronic box, this will not only water/weather proof it, but also make it much more stronger than the original two screws. I am very happy with the result and pretty sure they will last now."

I'm going to replace my front lower control arms on my Mazda 6 this Monday coming up so I guess i'll see how it holds up.

Stopped by my store today and they did have a bunch of stuff on clearance but nowhere near the prices you got...they also rearranged the the whole tool section only thing USA now is prybars, premium ratchets and the basic screwdrivers...there wasn't one craftsman pro screwdriver in the whole store....the staff was pretty friendly today for a change though

Just checked my store again. Same thing as always. Most of the "clearance" is only 5%-10% off full retail. Some of that stuff has been sitting there for months. Oh well the day I don't check is the day they will finally blow it out....

Pipe wrenchs, Pliers, Adjustable Wrenches and punches and chisels are all US made too. More stuff as well.

My local Deptford mall NJ store is cleaned out maybe one or single wrenches a buck off in the smaller sizes.. Not much stock on hand for single tools either incase any one local was planning on going.

They also told me they changed there policy on warranty tools. Had a broken 3" 1/2" extension, didn't have it in stock so they offered a gift card worth its value, No more store to home warranty like they used to do if it wasn't in stock.

Just stopped in to my local store in Metairie, la and they had the 1/2" torque wrench to match the 3/8's posted earlier. It was listed for 99.97 on clearance. Just really couldn't justify the 100 bucks after reading the shotty reviews.

My local store gave me a gift card for the replacement value and then helped me order the replacement 36mm socket to ship right to my house at the kiosk. They just don't call the 800 number anymore. If they don't stock it online or the store they give you the gift card only.

explains why the single tool stock is so low, that *****. They didn't say anything about ordering it online, I'll just take it to the hardware store next time I go. not a big deal I have a few of them in the tool box I just haven't been to sears in awhile. Was hoping to find some larger wrenches on clearance though.

Has anyone found any deals at a local owned hardware store? Its been a long time since I've been to one of those since most of ours closed years ago.

The purple tags at my store aren't such great deals. A lot of smaller-sized open stock Craftsman Professional full polish wrenches (the old, really, really good US ones) marked $19.97-$20.97. Same for open stock Gearwrench.

Now if they pulled a 75% off deal with those...

Individual Craftsman Pro drivers are marked from $8-$12. That's ridiculous.

Most of the purple tag deals here are pretty good. I put together a set of SAE flex Gearwrench for cheaper than I can buy the set that Advance Auto has for 50% off right now and most of the ones I got are the locking head style.

Darn!...they moved everything around at my closed Sears too, but the clearance prices I am finding ****. I'll keep stopping by though because they are in the way, so they have to get tired of seeing them eventually.

Stopped by my local Sears and there were two areas clearly designated as clearance bays...but the prices, no joke, were only like a 1-5 dollars off their regular prices...

Mine had filled an entire aisle with cardboard boxes of "clearance" items. Couldn't have been more then a few dollars off regular pricing.

Sear's bipolar pricing and awful website have taught me if its not at least half off, then wait until it is, because it will be.

finally stopped in to grab my free trade in 9/16" (which was USA) and noticed a bunch of Clearance bins, ranging from $4 and under to $20 and under. Nothing was that great of a deal. The girl at the register spotted me browsing and calls me over. "wanna check out the $1 bucket?" UMM, YEA! A bunch of smaller wrenches, mostly speed wrenches and some old USA ratcheting wrenches, and some drill bits. I picked up a couple a couple ratcheting wrenches and then she hands me this saying, "I don't know what this does but it's normally like $15-20". I bought it.

Stopped by Sears in Brockton, MA today- they had a bunch of wrenches for 50% off. Ended up grabbing a full polished 5/8-11/16" double box end, a 3/4-7/8" double box end, a 30MM raised panel, a 1 1/8-1 1/4 open end, and a 1 5/16" raised panel for $53 out the door. All were USA.

They had a bunch of professional full polish made in USA wrenches as well- looked like enough to make a set up to 1".

Stopped by today, but no bins with extra % off. They had a few good deals, but nothing that made me bite

I went to the Orange, CA Sears. Much better than Costa Mesa, CA Sears. They had two tables of single wrenchs for 50% off the red tag price. Typical ratcheting wrench (Gear or Craftsman) would be $5 to $10 after the discount. I couldn't justify so I ran away before my wallet opened.

Btw, they had alot of "clearance" items but prices were not that good.

Does anybody know if sears have a set day they lower these prices? I figure I can go every week on that day. :dunno:

Got a bottle of pressure washer soap concentrate, and an aerosol can of pressure washer pump protectant for 47 cents each. Plus a 7/8" combo 6pt wrench for $5. Not bad.
