Any More, when a CM ratchet fails, If I dont have a rebuild kit, I store it in a bucket marked "Steel Shorts", before I take the bucket to the scrap yard.

The quality of the new asian imports have gone down, making the warranty worthless

Wait, Sear's rebuilds ratchets these days? :headscrat I thought, their warranty process was to do a simple swap of the complete tool and call it a day. :eyecrazy: Better off etching your initials on the ratchet handle to make sure it was yours.

It depends on the local store. If they still have a guy that hasn't been laid off, then they'll take the ratchet and have you come back when it's been rebuilt. Some stores do it in the store and some send it to a regional rebuild guy and then it gets sent back to your store. Other stores don't have a guy, so they either hand the kit to you, or swap it out for a rebuilt ratchet they keep in stock under the counter. Most store clerks will try to swap it out for an off the shelf ratchet, just so they don't have to do the paperwork (I think it counts as a sale on their stats, but I'm not sure).

In short, every store has a different standard policy depending on the managers. It doesn't matter if it's a corporate store or a franchise, they all make it up as they go.

Thank you for chiming in -

Do you have access to the documentation that supersedes what I posted that you can share?

Here is the newest documentations for the ratchet kits and rebuilds. Sadly you'll notice the kits for the RHFT ratchets have been discontinued.

The guy at my local Sears rebuilds them right there on the sales counter while you wait. The kit for the rebuild is free, but I wanted some extras because they are being discontinued. I don't know what they're going for on Ebay but kits for any size ratchet can be purchased directly from Sears for $1.00.

You are very welcome!

Maybe I should start a thread for the kits and post the documents there? :dunno:

Thanks for sharing. I think you should start a new thread. It will make it a lot easier to find a year from now.

There is a guy on eBay that sells USA-Made NOS kits. I've bought a couple. Who knows how many he has, and for what model ratchets though...

Guessing it wasn't one of the teardrop styles that was shown above? Because I know they aren't interchangeable (unless you do some modifications I suppose). The holes for the lever are even in different spots

Yes they were all teardrop style. I do not remember which was which, but they were both different like you are saying. The newer of the 2 USA's I had match the China version now.

my sears will not give me any kits. ive tried. talked with the manager. no dice.

I would email or call the Sears hq if I were you. I just emailed them in regards to some new keys I lost for a toolbox. I'm sure they can track down a kit and send it to you. Recently I had a Kobalt locking extension break on me. I went to my Lowe's to swap it out, but they didn't have any. The tool guy there searched around on computer, but no local stores had any locking extensions what so ever. So I emailed the headquarters. I received a return email, a phone call, and a follow up phone call to see if I got the first. Long story short they don't make them anymore, but they were more then willing to exchange it for a regular one. Its worth a shot with Sears/Craftsman. I'd do it. No shame in my game.
