Before I make a trip out to my local sears, I was wondering if they would take back tools I bought a while back. I have a set of those gawd aweful craftsman brand gear wrenches, that feel like they have rocks for the ratcheting mechanism. I do have all original packaging and a receipt for them, however I bought them about a year ago. Can I just take them back and say that I am unsatisfied with them? I thought I'd ask here before making a half hour trip to sears. Thanks.

Depends on the people manning the desk at your local store. There have been a few threads in the past week or so about terrible service at Sears. I'd call first before making the drive.

Since they're a year old, I'm guessing that you're out of luck but who knows.

I'd imagine that they'd have no problem warranty-exchanging them for you, but I seriously doubt they'd give you your money back for them a year after the purchase.

As boiler7904 said, though, a lot of it depends on the store. I've seen stuff get cash-back returned at my local store - without a receipt - that looked to be decades-old and scuffed all to hell.

Yeah, I wasn't sure..I might just hold off until I have to swing that way. I had just been talking to a friend of mine and he said he was going to try and return some stuff that he wasn't happy with, and I wondered if I was going to be able to do the same. We'll see I suppose.

My neighbor returned a gift that came from Sears, and since they didn't have the correct size, they gave him a gift card. He tried to use the gift card on the website to order merchandise, and it turns out that the gift card is only good in the store. They are a slippery bunch at Sears..... just be forewarned... :shocking:

In the good ol' days you would be able to do that, assuming there wasn't a lot of noticeable wear. The back of the receipts now state a 90 day return policy.

according to the sears craftsman TOOL warranty, you can return the tool at ANY time for replacement OR FULL refund.

That's not the warranty that's printed on the plastic deal on my recently-replaced 1/2" drive ratchet (P/N 44809).

It states:

FULL UNLIMTED WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN HAND TOOLS

If any Craftsman Hand Tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, RETURN IT TO THE NEAREST SEARS STORE OR CRAFTSMAN OUTLET IN THE UNITED STATES and it will be replaced, free of charge.

Emphasis their's, not mine.

The "Power and Hand Tools 2006-2007" catalog I've got here says:

Craftsman Hand Tools are Guaranteed Forever.

If any Craftsman hand tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, return it to Sears for free repair or replacement.

Anyone got anything different?

Went into the Sears flier archive at my house and found this:

2004 Tool Gift Guide (complete with Bob Vila on page one) -

"If any Craftsman hand tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, return it for free repair or replacement".

Found some newer catalogs and they pretty much say the same thing.
