I had one a few years back when they were still US made. Not sure if it's the same but it was the only Craftsman tool I've ever returned because I was unsatisfied with its performance. I purchased a Gearwrench set off of Woot and I would purchase it again even at full price.

They had a gear wrench set for $199 that was identical blow mold case, color, tools.
Believe same relabeled for craftsman?
Both made in china.
Tired of buying one at a time pieces to chase threads etc in middle of projects but don't want a bad tool set either. Appreciate your guys input on this immensely.

There was a tap and die thread earlier today. The consensus is these are somehing that you don't want to cheap out on with Chinese imports. They might be just fine, but they may also be a nightmare if you break a tap. Go Irwin if you want a decent set made in USA.

Irwin still makes em in the usa? Uh...have to check on that one. Most of their other stuff is china or taiwan even (some of) their marquee 'vice grip' tools. Just saw this at sears. Plus...mail in warranty is out of the question for some people.

OP, if they still have the warranty then its probably okay. I wonder if the harbor freight "titanium nitride" ones are any better. Based on the price they might be and probably taiwanese (based on the price). Check them out if you've got an hf in the area.

Thanks guys. Search tool finicky for some reason on just tap and die. Add brand name and getting hits. I have more than enough to read now. This set not the way to go.

The GW set is not the same as the Craftsman. It's got awesome ratcheting tap handles that I recommend you pick up regardless of which set you end up picking up.
