I have an even more ridiculous Sears story, a Sears Auto Center story. A young Sears service adviser was closing up, and a man came in to pick up his car. He had dropped it off for an oil change, very small bill. The service adviser had already closed up the drawers and couldn't process any payments, and basically said, "Sorry, I can't give you your car or take your payment. You'll have to come back tomorrow." Only problem was, the customer was a shop-owner in the mall, in the food court, and he had no other means of transportation to get home an hour away.
The service adviser wouldn't even take cash. "I'm sorry sir, I could lose my job," While holding the customer's car keys in his hand. He was a young guy and wasn't very smart to say the least. Oh the customer was irate, and yet still respectful. It was baffling.
Oh but that's not the worst part of the story. They call over a Sears Manager from another department of the store, and he was equally devoid of common sense, and had no idea what to do. The adviser tries calling the Auto Center managers but no one picks up. I don't know what happened to the man.
The next day the Auto Center managers hear and they are astounded at the level of stupidity of the young service adviser, but especially of the manager of the other department, who has had other issues before as well, incompetence and so on. That manager was told how astounded and amazed the Auto Center managers were about what happened, and he just said some stupid thing I can't remember.
There's a reason Sears is going bankrupt.
Oh by the way, my co-worker bought that same Craftsman box, the bottom one, for $200 used from the Snap-On man. Man if I needed a box, I would have had a bidding war over it. I'd still say they're not as good as US General Harbor Freight boxes. Husky and Craftsman and other boxes are just made of the thinnest metal, it's sad, you can see the low quality in it. But for the price if you find them on sale, come on. I just saw a really nice Husky toolbox with a wood work surface for $275 or something on sale. But man that metal was thin. Feels like I could drop a wrench on a drawer and dent it. But for 1/50 the price of a Snap/Mac/Matco box? In a heartbeat baby. I'll buy 10 of them before I buy one of those overpriced boxes. And I'll spend the money on tools instead.
