Seat creepers

What do you guys use for a seat creeper or mechanic stool? I've got a heavy steel seat that someone built and while its the perfect height and very sturdy to stand on it just isn't very mobile or comfortable for let's say a brake job. It also has no tray or drawer so all the tools and parts have to move separately. I had a cheap seat from farm and fleet but it just didn't hold up and eventually fell apart.

Harbor freight has one on sale right now for 19.99 but I thought I could do better. I looked on snap on's site and they have a nice one with drawer and tray made in USA for 99.99. Looking for opinions of anyone who has one. Here's a link:

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...roup_ID=682023&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

I'm open to other suggestions as well. I'm 5'11" and 240 lbs. I want something that will last and hold up to some heavy use.
Thanks

That Snap-on one looks very much the same as my Craftsman one with a drawer added to it... http://www.sears.com/craftsman-creeper-seat/p-00951167000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

I've had mine for 10 years now, used in my DIY garage, so not daily use. I'm the same height/weight and had no problems with it structurally. I have some casters come loose once in a while, but overall no complaints, especially for the price. I think it was under $20 when I bought it in 2003.

Right now I have the craftsman with the round padded seat. It is okay, but I have considered buying one of the attached creepers. The first I like because of the obvious two-in-one design. The second I like because of the swing out tray rather than a dinky drawer on slides. The third I like because of the option to kneal. Not sure if this helps but atleast here are some features to think about.

I use the snapon seat at work for brakes jobs and stuff. It's super comfortable, rolls around easy and has a tray for tools on the bottom. It looks like the one attached but says snapon on it

Thanks for the replies!

I like the look of the northern tool creeper but really want to buy a made in USA product.

I don't trust the craftsman ones as they are to much like what I had that fell apart or too close in price for the USA snap on.

This one look so ugly but at the same time seem like it could work pretty well

I don't care for the snap on style seat. The curved support braces are too springy. I bought a Matco seat with that style years ago and gave it back. At the time snap on had one with a round seat and support straight down. Has a shelf with casters. Very sturdy.

I have a el cheap I picked up at a swap meet for $20 several years ago. The cushion is flat and the casters are close to giving up the ghost. I'd like to build a heavy duty one but I need a good set of casters to start with.

I have one that I won at a car show. I believe the name is Kreepstool. It is about a $150.00 unit but it is great. It has six urethane wheels, a tool tray. It rolls well with ball bearing swivel wheels.

This started out life (probably 35-40 years ago) as a Craftsman with a plywood bench seat. Had this replica HD seat as a freebie from my job at a dealer at the time. Much more comfortable now. The steel wheels died a few years ago and it got new casters which are much quieter.

You do have to be somewhat careful as it does wheelies very easily.

Office task chair with the back and arms removed gives you a fairly comfortable platform with adjustable height. The wheels could be nicer though.

I've been sporting the tailbone for a couple of months, so far I like it. Every piece of it is made in the USA. I also have their Bonester creeper which I love.

Believe it or not...the HF unit is STOUT! My 280# *** has been abusing mine for 6 years now, and it is rock solid...no give or bounce at all. I use it every day since I don't have a workbench to work on...just the floor

I used to be young and stupid and tell myself and others that I didn't need a creeper or a stool to sit on when i was wrenching on cars or doing other work. Now I hate when the work i am doing requires me to NOT be able to sit or lay comfortably.

I inherited this from my wife's uncle. It gets the job done.

I use an old computer/office chair.

Mine is part of office chair. Seat itself is an old steel tractor/implement seat I blasted and powder coated. Comfy as all get out. I use it more than the padded Crapsman one I also have.

medical exam stools. Had a friend sell her medical practice and give me the stools out of the exam rooms for the garage. They are super strong and roll very well, highly recommended.

I always fall off the damn things so I usually throw down one of those high quality blue moving blankets, folded over double. Keeps me off the ground & keeps my tools etc from getting scratched up :)

No idea how you guys find time to sit down doing a brake job at work. I see guys do it every day but it always looks like a waste of money (loss of time) to me. When I do sit on the job, I use a Kobalt creeper because it's cheap and has all-metal construction. I've had it for a few years and it's held up ok. It's $35, not quite as cheap as Harbor Freight's option, but HF is geographically prohibitive to me. I love my Snap-On seats and stools, but I keep them at my home garage. Let the cheap stools get killed at work.

Built mine. Don't have a pic of it complete. I have a mount on the front leg for a coffee can to hold nuts & bolts. Works great.

Home garage. Not all of us have to us our tools to make our living. Thankfully speed is not the most important aspect, comfort is.

I have a harbor freight within 15 minutes if me. Pretty darn convenient. I might just go pick one up from them. On sale for 19.99. Although I do have a credit right now on the snap on truck and the one in my link looked pretty nice.

Lots of neat options in this thread. Thanks guys.

Well my Kobalt is a POS! The seat came off and planted my *** on the ground! Had a buddy weld it back on then the pneumatic strut thingy stopped locking so it is all ways up and falls down when you sit on it but it don't just fall down right when you sit it lets you think it might hold you and as you get comfy. BAM!!!! Down you go I swear I can hear the motherf#*^%+ giggle every time

Am I the only one that just uses an upside-down milk crate? Seems to have always worked for anything wheel/tire/brake level. Am I really missing out by not having wheels?
