Secondhand Snap On Prices?

Hi all,

I thought to myself today:
"Why do SO tools hold their value so well over here in England, especially the A/F (SAE) sized tools and hard handled tools ?" But yet over the pond I have seen many of the SO range sold on various websites including GJ for a fraction of the price

I can only assume that their is an abundance of SO addicts in the US who must have the newest tool/gadget and must get rid of the older stuff to make room

I am sure that you lot will let your thought roll off the tongue

Also they are not that cheap here either when you compare them to what matco, mac, and cornwell stuff goes for Snap On is always more expensive (Used that is).

There are simply a lot more SO tools over here. More dealers, more users, more used stuff, cheaper prices.

Well thats what I thought aswell, but surely people dont just get rid of older tools to replace with nice shiny ones? Do they?

I can understand if they have multiple duplicate items like spanners, ratchets but I have seen 1-2 year old tool boxes for sale just to buy the newest spec (which is around the same size)

Anyhow, I am glad the, dare I say rich/greedy (bring on the slaughter) tool addicts buy one year and sell on the next as it gives a newcomer to the various trades an opportunity to buy the best at a more reasonable price

A lot of the current sell off of tools here has to do more with the economy. Not necessarily to buy the newest item.

and the guys take them to the pawn shop and get a loan for pennies on the dollar then let the pawn shop keep them and they blow them out and then they hit ebay CL, etc.
Or the guy gets repo-ed and the stuff get s sold to cover the bill.
and theft is big in the tool world. many of my techs have had huge amounts of tools stolen. and they end up on ebay as well.
Could account for a small portion of the cheaper SO tools
