Secure, easy to use, remote for door opener?

A friend is paranoid about someone stealing the registration and opener from his car/bike and now having a key to his garage. Are there any secure remotes, say, with a keypad built in, that can be carried on a car/bike? I did see one bluetooth app with a receiver module, but that means handing his phone to a guest, which won't work.

thanks,
jim

Why not just get one of the little keychain remotes? And for the guest you mean someone else staying at his house? if so just give them the normal remote he has now.

Don't ask.
On some motorcycle forums I read about people wiring the remote in to the bright headlamp circuit. The remote is mounted in a hidden location on the bike and you flash the brights to open the door.

Those keypads mounted by most garage doors aren't wired. They're just wireless remotes with a 4 digit security code. Carry one of those.

Newer garage door openers (2013 and newer? with MyQ Security+2.0) can use a smart phone app.

Keychain opener as mentioned.

Some combination of the above?

The most secure option is to not have an opener on the door, and have the old style keylock on it. But, most of us like the convenience of the openers, and so you have to compromise a little bit and just get the risk down to an acceptable level.

Maybe I dont understand, but why not just mount a wireless combo keypad on the wall next to the door? If there is any issue, just change the code..

To be able to activate the door while on the bike.

The wireless mountable entry keypads suggested by others are way too big, and the key fob lacks the security.

I'm gonna guess it doesn't exist. :)

Mount keypad on pole a few feet from the garage door so you can punch in the code without getting off the bike.

Basically this^^^^
As in older cars that don't come with built-in programmable remote keys; people have used blank switch locations and wired the transmitter to the switch- mounting the transmitter under the hood. Ridding the sunvisor of the obvious remote.

So he is worried about someone taking the opener but he is going to leave the keys on the bike?
