securing the toolbox

I got my first big (one that dont fit behind the seat of my truck) toolbox for Christmas and was trying to figure out how to keep it from walking away. It sits against the wall next to a 6x6, i was thinking that i might be able to fasten it to the post somehow.
do any of you guys have your boxes fixed to the building somehow?

My tool box needs to be portable to move around the garage as needed. Securing it in one place would defeat owning it.

Your tool box most likely doesn't have a motor, so it isn't likely to drive off. It would be too heavy for a thief to lift and too slow to drive away with, so I'd worry more about making it usable for you and less about it leaving.

How many tools you got that could be used to defeat a toobox securing setup? If you are like me that would stall them only a few minutes. Security cameras, even the dummy ones, might work better for this, and make friends with the neighbors. Some free oil change labor can go a long way. My neighbors call me all the time at work for dumb stuff, so if anything really big goes down I know they will be calling the police. And they know I do the same for them.

If they want it bad enough they'll get it. That being said, chain it to the wall if it makes you feel better. Secure the garage the best you can and cover the box or make sure it can't be seen from the outside. My shop looks like a **** collection drop off site when you look in the windows... I have a crappy beat up box I leave out with some HF tools in it that I let people use to ward off the theives. I cover up my more expensive toys(gen, welder, trimmers, etc).

I was thinking something along that line. Don't really need it to roll around, my garage isn't that big.
Might set up the old dummy security camera thing on the house and garage.

Just remember, all you can really do is deter them. Make it take more time and effort, and they will look for an easier target. If they really want it, you're probably not gonna stop them.

I lost my top box and all of my hand tools in 1979 from the first body shop I worked in. The thieves loaded it into the trunk of the car I was working on and stole them both. From that point on until I got out of the business I bolted my top and bottom boxes together and lag bolted them to the wall. I think anything that slows them down will help, but the newer big boxes would be tough to run away with in a car!

nieghbor to one side of me keeps an eye on everything that goes on,between his large sheperd, 2 keeshounds, and my large sheperd even the UPS guy runs when he hears dogs barking

neighbors and dogs are the best deterrent, thieves dont like noise, barking dogs, even if they dont bite on sight, make most of them nervous.
like the old saying goes,
"never mind the dog, beware the owner"
all my boxes are heavy enough that nobody is gonna load them without a LOT of help. i keep my boxes and equipment at the back of the garage, with 2 vehicles in front of them,
keep your box locked, that way they cant empty it out, and leave you toolless
