I need to put security cameras up on one of my properties. I live 90 miles away from this place, but have internet access etc.

I am looking for feedback on DVR systems for 8 cameras. Looking to see if anyone knows or has a system that will always record BUT send me emails of photos of movement on selected cameras.

I have an 8 camera POE system by Hikvision. Excellent quality for the price. Local NVR recording, local settings of recording features, zones, email alarms, resolution, etc. Also remote viewing of all 8 cameras from phone. Must keep you NVR powered at all times or you lose everything. I have a back APC UPS system to keep the NVR, cameras and PC running for 4 hours without power.

I also have a QSEE system and very pleased with it. Yes it will send emails with pics of what set alarms on selected cams. On a tablet or computer you can monitor live as well as playback alarms. On cell phone you can play live or select a time to playback.

What model Qsee do you have? I was looking at several of theirs today.

My QSEE system is a QT series about 4 years old from Costco. There are many newer models out now but the QSEE software is easy to use.
One of my favorite catches
I also bought a licence plate capture cam that works perfect for getting plate number even at night.

Here is a pic of my truck in the dark with licence plate cam, note it sees only the plate as it is designed. Most regular cams can't see the plate at night from glare

Thanks. That's clear as can be. How far away from the camera was the truck roughly when that was captured?

I'm looking at 720p or 1080p Qsee systems.

Does anyone know if fps is still a factor with HD units as it is with lower resolution recording?

The truck was 80 feet away. The lpr cam is able to zoom 300 feet in day
Here is the LPR cam I have http://www.ebay.com/itm/LPR-License-Plate-Camera-Professional-Recognition-13-Sony-CCD-660mm-Zoom-Lens-/271542115043

You may want to jump into another group of thread. The one that talks about electrical, devices and stuff. I think there is a thread in here that suits to that.

If you have a WiFi connection in those places or you are looking for a classic security camera recording system?

The best security protection you can get is a Nosey Neighbor, the neighbor does not have to get into your business but knows what is supposed to be going on and will call you if something is amiss.

Hey. The thing is, I don't really trust IP and DVR surveillance camera networks. In my opinion, DVR systems are too insecure and easy to hack. So I'm thinking about connecting my cameras to another surveillance system. I'm currently looking at Vivint home security as an alternative. I really like your camera design and wide range of recording options, plus the affordable pricing is tempting. That said, I trust Vivint's software and their data centers more than I trust IP open cloud data gathering.

If that’s the way you feel, you should consider building a Blue Iris system. No cloud involved, you have total control.

The cheap Chinese DVR's may be easy to hack (for a true Hacker) but the real danger is a corporation with PCI or other sensitive information allowing access to their network via a compromised device. For a DVR in your garage, there is literally no risk unless you process credit cards on a local server or have a bunch of unencrypted sensitive data, which almost nobody really has on a home system. I think I will probably use the Wyze cameras due to their robust notification systems. An email doesn't do much for me, I need an alert so if someone breaks in I will know immediately. I'll likely add a monitored alarm but I haven't decided yet. Still in construction.
