Security camera/ trail cam

HI all, so my dad and I are going to be renovating the milk house on are property down the road we plan on turning it into a work shop for me to work on my honda motorcycles, boat motors, and other projects. The only issue is we have some disrespectful foks that are thiefs that live across the road and I would like to have a camera for some security. At the milk house there is no power so I'm thinking a trail cam might work, but I dont want some one stealing it so any Ideas?

I would try a security camera with a solar panel for power. I've seen every kind of security feature on trail cameras fail. It's all in how determined the thief is.

I did not know that was a thing, I will look into that.

Trail cams would work for basic security, but they'll be set off by any movement, such as animals too, as they were intended. How far is it to run power? I say that because a 4 camera NVR system would be perfect for a little shop, and easy to set up too. The cameras can come on 720p and 1080p, have really good night vision, and are PoE so the cameras get their power from the Cat6 cable coming from the recorder unit. I've installed a couple in small businesses and they've been more than enough... Just need power to the shop.

Depending on the distance involved, I'm wondering if they make a wireless unit? Or, batteries and a loud alarm bell may help alert you to entry by local thieves. A unit with a delayed alarm can let you know of a problem before the thieves are alerted, giving you the advantage of surprise. Have you made a record of thefts to your local law enforcement people? Depending where you are located, it's possible to file a form that states no one but you are allowed on the property, and any others are subject to arrest for criminal trespass when found at your milk house. Make certain that your property is posted against trespass so no one may claim ignorance of the facts.

Buy yourself a trail cam or two. I use the stealth cam G42. You can take 10mp pics or 10 sec video clips. I have two of em i use for hunting and they are great. They run off 8 AA batteries and take up to a 32 gb sd card. They work at night off infrared with no flash from up to 60 feet. Amazon has em for about 110$. They also make bear proof tree mounts, but your probably just better off hiding it.

Something I just learned recently.
On the note of trail cams/security------

If the cam uses IR (infared) a cell phone camera can "see" IR. It makes a blue colored area around the IR source.
So, if the thief knows this they can scan for IR sources/cameras.

Maybe just let it be known that the area is under camera watch.
Signs will not hurt.
But mention it to supplies delivery drivers etc.
The word will get around.
If they know they will get their PIC taken they just may not bother.

If you put a trail cam out, you might consider putting another up about 20 feet in another tree with no branches. Use a ladder to put it up, and point it at the first cam. Then you have one cam watching the shop and one cam watching the other cam

how about good strong steel gates inside before the doors, bars on windows it all helps to stop them getting it
