not sure if this is the right spot to ask but thought maybe someone might have some wisdom on the subject. I have a remote cabin and would like to put some sort of camera system on it. from what ive seen and heard of most of these game camera type units, they end up taking 2000 pics of squirrels and the landowners and fill the memory card. I need something that can be turned off remotely when im going to be around the property, I say remotely as Id like too put it high enough in a tree that it is inaccessible by the normal crackhead. it would have to be battery powered, and solar would be a great asset to keep the bat juiced in the cold winter months im thinking?

any suggestions?

Closest thing you can do without having power is get the covert block ops trail cam. It's a satelite trail cam but you should wait till they come out with the new ones that use the 3G service. Cost is about $10 a month and sends pics tp your PC or phone

not crazy about paying more to a phone company, something I will have to look into tho.. 3g service doesn't work in the location I'm in...had to buy a 4g phone to get service there! isn't 3g kinda obsolete?

The only other thing I can think of is getting a decent solar system and then hook up security camers. The black ops cameras now are 2g and they are going to stop the 2g networks so that's why I was saying to wait. I know they have a antenna booster and small solar panel to keep the batteries from dying out.

maybe im confused is it 3g that's the newest one? cuz I know I had to get a newer phone to get service out there maybe it was 2g? and the new one is 3? either way even if it emailed me when someone was around by the time I get there there gone and the damage is done, something that just took the pics and held them would be fine

Yeah 3G would be the new camera coming out. And if you don't think you have enough time with the trail cam then I don't think the security cam will be any different. At least you can have the pics saved

no I checked I was right my phone is 4g when I had 3 g I had no service and they put up a new tower a few years back It only worked on 4g so that idea is out the window unless theres 4g cameras, I'm fine with something like a trail camera but I'd like if there is something that I can turn on and off by remote so im not setting it off when I come around

I can't think of anything else without having power set up, with batteries you won't get much time with a security camera setup unless you have a decent solar setup with a bunch of batteries, then you have the issue of getting the pics to your phone or PC. Most guys on the hunting forums like the black ops cam but without the separate solar panel the batteries die within a week.

I have two of the Coverts. They work pretty well for me. I have them around my property and I go out every day or two, take them inside and see what is on them. Mine have the black lens that doesn't give off the red infra red flash. It is amazing what goes through your property at night. I plan on getting the movie cameras that Best Buy sells that hook up to my wifi. Then I can see from my computer.
