Yes another camera thread. Hopefully this is in the right sub forum.

Yes I know how to use the search function, I did find some threads but they were a bit older and with technology changing every day I wanted to get some fresh opinions.

School me in cameras... I want at least 4, something that wont break the bank but decent. I will have a dedicated computer monitor along with wifi/interwebs and a smart phone.

I stumbled across THIS but after further searching I had read that this brand is junk..

I want the cameras because i'm having some neighbor issues and to keep an eye on my cars in the driveway and to also be a theft deterrent. Im aware that my home can and will still be broken into.

Any insight is helpful.

I have a lorex wireless camera system that I have been using for 3 years now, the cameras are night vision, outdoor, and 2 way intercom. Never had a problem with it and has performed beyond my expectations..........I am happy to have parted with the $260 it cost + I can add a few more cams if needed

Im trying to make this as simple and painless as possible. Id really like to be able to buy a "kit", hook it all up and move on.

I picked up q-see set up for my house,8 cameras for $600 on amazon and work pretty good

I have IP cameras that integrate into my RTI Home Automation system so I can see my cameras on every tv in the house, on my phones, on my iPads, etc. I have 9 total cameras. I've had them for a couple years and love them. Only bummer is they can only be bought and installed thru an authorized dealer.

Therefore I would recommend a off the shelf system, with outdoor rated cameras, I saw a pretty good looking all in one system at Costco the other day.

I like hard wired, that way you don't lose the signal at an inopportune time, and the off the shelf system at Costco has an NVR to record. I think its useless to have cameras that don't record 24/7. My NVR is several terabytes and I get a couple weeks worth of recording on before it starts over.

IP cams are pretty simple as long as u have the tools to terminate CAT5. U will also need either individual mid span POEs or a POE switch. I like IP cams as theyre viewable over the network. Of course, analog cams are as well IF u have an NVR...

If u go the analog/RG59/BNC route, u will obviously need the tools to terminate the BNC connectors...

In addition to electrical, i work on CCTV systems at my day job...

Acti makes good quality IP cameras at a very affordable price point (and 2 year warranty), they come highly recommended on the CCTV forum. Best part is the Acti software is free if you use their cameras, and it is good software at that.

I have q see at my shop. Got them from BJ's, 4 camera and dvr for like $200 at the time. I extended 3 of the 4 wires because the come with 50' cables, and rather than buy extension cables I spliced in some cat5e. Been working just fine for over a year.

I have a four camera Lorex system going on for about 12 years. During that time frame I had to replace two or three power supplies and hard drive for the DVR. I now have 1t storage capacity. Not bad for a $400, system, I think.

One suggestion which every manufacturer you go with, unless it is a cost issue....get more than 4 camera system. A 4 camera system can cover the basics, but do leave blind spots with a single family home.
