So, I picked up some motion sensitive security lights to mount on my garage.

I also have the plastic box it mounts in.

Problem is the garage paneling is metal and uneven.

Second problem is there isn't an over hang and I'm in Seattle the land of perpetual moisture/drizzle.

What is the best way to go about mounting this light?

Should I design a small over hang for it to keep the rain off it directly?

Should I then mount it into the galvanized steel and use a silicon sealent to fill the cracks where the metal doesn't meet up with the plastic box?

What would you guys do?

Because I get obsessive about these things and I needed to mount my security light right in the middle of my two doors exactly where there was a bump in the PBR panel and because I wanted a light that required a flush mount, I believe I was in your exact situation. I looked all over for a PBR flush mount panel but couldn't find one, so I had to make my own.

I drilled a 4" hole in two 3/4" x 6" pieces of plastic trim board Screwed them together and cut 2 45° angles though the center to allow for the PBR hump. Of course now I had two parts with 1/2 of a 4" hole in the center.

I put the box in place and screwed the wood to white trim capping. Bent the capping around the board. Now I had a white trim board with a 4" hole wrapped in white capping. I drilled a matching 4" hole in the capping and trimmed the tapered top and bottom slots in the capping to match the 45° angles cut into the trim board.

It ended up being a pretty flimsy block with a hole in it but when I screwed it down to the PBR the system was solid and I was able to mount my light to it.

All together it was a days work for a job that could have easily been done in a 1/2 hr with an outdoor electrical box and a security light that would mount directly to that type of box.

Mine is under an eve so I'm not to concerned about direct rain. Sorry I don't have any pictures.
