Adaptor or Key....not sure what they are usually called. this is to remove the security lug nut on my VW. I have one, but I want a back up in case it gets lost, misplaced, damaged etc. I prefer to not go to the Stealership so please don't respond with that unless you know for a fact that is the only way to get one. I have looked on several of my go to German car part websites , like ECS and Cascade German Parts and I can not find the one I need. Other styles, yes. Any other ideas where to look? thanks!

Amazon, someone on ebay will be selling them, Big car parts retail stores may stock them, more than likely won't be 'genuine' vw but they will be 3rd party and cheaper.

They locking key should have a part number, every lug nut key I have seen has a part number, quick google should bring up the right one.

there are multiples for vw, went through this with my kids jetta. I picked up 3 at a junk yard and none of them fit, so there's more than 4 sizes for sure.

nothing I could find aftermarket including the "master locking lugnut kit" they sell on amazon or the ones at HF.

if you can't find one at a junk yard dealership is pretty much the only other option.

if you lose the original, the parts stores sell a universal lug remover that is like a female e-z out that will remove it. there are 2 sizes, my vw took the larger. then dispose of the locks and put regular lugs back on.

Correct there are 20 different options, they can all be bought from any authorised dealer.

Usually its a 3 day wait to get the key in if its not in stock (for us anyway).

In all honestly i would just buy 4 wheel bolts and replace the security keys with standard. I've never known them to stop anyone stealing a wheel. The sets are very easy to get now, you can get them from amazon and ebay for about £30.

Its around £250 for a genuine master set. We charge £26 per key where i work.

Maybe this is dumb, but why not buy four regular lugs and call it a day?

I've never run a "security" lug nut/bolt (woohoo VW things!) on my vehicles, but I also generally park in areas that don't have higher rates of theft/crime.

I think the part number search is your best option, or maybe see what UroTuning/ECSTuning have to offer.

Someone just sent me this.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/183644184868

It is more $ than I would have expected. But It is Not a cheap Chinese knock off.

It is also included in the kit Uscarry45 suggested.

Also found a 32pc VW set from Steelman for about $70 on Amazon that also includes it. Probably a Chinese COO.

The suggestions to eliminate the lock and replace with standard lug bolts is not being ignored. It comes down to where you park the car. My city is safe but sometimes I need to go to some places in Boston in other higher crime areas. A real thief will still steal them regardless of the security lug. It just slows them down a minute or two.

Thanks for the fast and quality replies.

I sometimes service cars who's owners have misplaced the key so need to resort to other methods. They are very easily defeated.

A (often sacrificial as they then don't want to come off the lug )12 pt socket just a smidge smaller than the nut gets hammered on and they come off lickety split. Works better than the fancy schmancy helix type bolt removers.
A dedicated thief would have no problem sacrificing his shoplifted sockets for a nice set of wheels.

I think the security lug is sensible then -- it's just like anything else, the security is meant to make a potential criminal rethink their choice and at a minimum look for an easier option.

Hopefully the set posted will work out for you, heck maybe you can even offer services to others local to you to make some of your money back.

Definitely a good deterrent against simple mindless vandalism. Just a tip: make it a habit to always return the key back to designated storage and never let the tire jocks impact the locks on with the key.

do yourself a favor: remove all the locking luts and buy a normal one. you will thank me later when you have lost not one but both keys. if someone really wants your wheels they will take them.

Thanks again to all of the suggestions. These come from the factory like this. Knowing VW the way I do I think it is more of a strategy to get you to pay the dealer more money for when you loose or damage the key. As I said a real thief will steal them if they really want to. It is a big problem for an honest person who lost the key.
Another good point about shops using impacts on it. That will destroy it over time. I try to do my own work but it has been to a few tire shops where I have no idea if they have done that. Some shops have their own sets so they don't have to waste time looking through the car for it.
