I was about to post a bunch of pictures showing off my new shop, but it dawned on me. Although most of the people here are very honest and helpful, what about the crooks that are out there? Do I really want to showcase this to the entire world? A lot of people also include their location, and often their full names. I have insurance for this reason, but it seems as if one could really be asking for trouble?

Has anyone had any theft problems they think may have come from someone seeing your shop on this or other sites?

I am just too paranoid, maybe I will cool down and finish my posting.

I have friend with a great shop...he said he'd NEVER put his on a site like this for that reason. Not worried about the locals...just the cretins doing a little shopping...

If you're worried about it, just blur out anything that can easily identify you. Ie, license plates, mailbox, etc..

Yeah, all your local folk see what you have every day. Well, maybe not the inside, but if the outside is nice, they'll assume the inside is not a garbage dump.

Just be careful, but not tinfoily.

You're just being paranoid. Only one time have i ever seen someone stop posting because of this, and that was only because someone was asking very particular questions about location and his security set up. But he came back anyways and finished posting. I dont believe you will be in any trouble like stated, dont give out any huge identifiers of your whereabouts and you'll be fine.

Anything is possible - however, I think the scum of the earth cruising for targets probably do it the old fashioned way - the drive by.
The person mentioned earlier that got some odd questions was out of most of our price ranges.

I don't believe there has been anybody robbed after directly posting pics on here. Now as Neon said, there was one who was asked some specific questions, deleted a bunch of stuff. It could have been a crook or someone just being curious but as far as I know, nothing came of it.

I have alarms, dogs and plenty of guns. With the mood I have been in for the past 2 years about the economy, I keep hoping someone would try to steal something.

I need the practice on fast moving targets..........

Car tags, unless the crook has friends in the right places, they cannot get enough info to be of any use, the states have that info pretty well restricted. Pics of airplanes however, you might want to blur out your registration, its very easy to run on the FAA web site and get the address, etc. I am careful to only show what I want to show and nothing I think will identify my locale or anything that might attract someone.

Never understood why someone would even bother go thru the process of blurring out their license plate, ..., baloney, ...
Not like you can't see literally thousand of them everyday!
Then the next person comes along & shows their custom plates.

Paranoid.
Hey, Turn around, ..., Who's that?!?

That's what insurance is for.

I have more concern over my friends and acquaintances casually mentioning "the guy with the cool stuff in his garage" to other people or complete strangers.

This is becoming more prevalent, and sadly, you are more likely to be ripped off by those who have access, opportunity or know you. I've heard this story far too frequently at car shows and club meets, and it's happened to friends ripped off by their friends or relatives, typically desperate for cash or their next fix.

If you don't publish your street address you're probably okay. :)

How will people know where you live? Even if you include your city, how can someone target you from pics of the interior of your garage?

I'm sure if you put on TWO tinfoil hats, no one will burglarize you. :bounce:

Is it possible to recognize a place from a picture here? Yes I've done it with one place here. I was lucky and spotted the neighborhood from a drive through a few months before.

Now if someone asks where you are in an open post you can respond via a PM or ignore it. I've been asked where I was at before and my response was "North of Iowa and south of Heaven."

What ever you do just do not tell us about the Security System you have or the Doberman and Alastian that sleep in your garage next to the cupboard with the firearms. :bounce:

Seriously if you have an issue about posting leave out information that may trouble you if you post it  and enjoy what the GJ forum offers you in return

Why would you have the dogs sleeping next to the fire arms? Don't be a hold out, if you know a way to teach a dog how to shoot intruders I wanna know! My dogs have mostly been freeloaders, don't get me wrong I love my dogs but that would be so cool. I can see the sign now, "WARNING: Property protected by a pitbull with aids and a .45!"

The one time I had a theft issue... there was "friends" kids involved.

My shop has bars on the windows, double dead bolts, no outside handles on the garage doors and the only man-door is via our yard with dogs. Just try and make it harder so they'll go somewhere else.

You just reminded me that a friend once had a sign -
"Warning these Premises Protected by R.A.I.D.
(Rover An Invisible Dog)".

I believe it was a motion sensor and a recording in reality and the sign was not in an obvious place.
