Security Token

Can someone explain what it is, and where the hell it goes once in a while?

Sometimes I go to make a reply and it says my "Security Token" is missing. I go back and try to load the page again, and then it's fine. If the Security Token is like a Security Guard, then the sumbitch is out taking too many smoke breaks.

So what is the Security Token?

With regards to the vBulletin software that runs this forum, the security token is just a small bit of unique information that is relayed to your browser from the forum so that the forum will be able to identify your session when you submit a request. Something is occurring where the token the server believes it handed you is not the token you are returning back during a subsequent request.

By chance are you not using the default skin for the forum?

Yeah I have the same problem all the time trying to mark the forums read from the quick link drop down. The only way it seems to work is if I use tapatalk on my phone to mark the forums read.

That's almost certainly a bug in the interface skin for the particular links you're using. The $session['token'] object or whatever its called these days is likely not being handed to your browser so that it can be handed back during the response.

I didn't know there was another "skin" for the site. Where is it located to change it? I don't know what skin I'm using, but on my monitor, the Forum is down the middle with a light sky blue down each side. :dunno:

I see the Security Token message when I have left the forum open for a long time and wandered off to other tabs that I have in the same browser window. Then eventually I'll get back to the forum, try to reply and get the Security Token message. It seems to time out while I am away. I just have to reload the page to reconnect with the forum.

I honestly don't know if there are alternates for this site or not. I know that updated skins sometimes have bugs related to the security tokens and various other background details is all and thought maybe that was the case here.

Make sure you are using the latest version of your browser. They get updated every month or so. Some of the changes are how they handle cookies, tokens etc.

^This. Same with me. That's the only time I see the message. Probably should read "Session Timed Out" instead of "Lost Security Token." I don't know how many times I have lifted up my laptop to see it I dropped the damn thing in the toilet!
