Seeking input for wiring plan

Hey everyone,

The garage is almost finished....I'll be making a log soon of the 32x22x12 beauty. I've been reading up on the electrical books, etc and reading plenty of posts here. I've made a list of equipment and the amps required with what I think is the correct wire size.

I'll be getting an electrician to install a 100A subpanel off my 200A house service

I'd be great if I could get some feedback on my list (attached)

Intending on eventually running the following:
Window Mount 18,000BTU aircondioner
HotDawg 60,000BTU heater
180 TIG
211 MIG
Quincy 5HP 60gal 2 stage compressor
Bendpak lift
General fabricating handtools

Besides the 220V requirements, I was thinking I should run a 15A and 20A 110V circuit, and a separate light circuit for the LED strip lights I'll be running.

I hope I've given enough info, if not let me know and I appreciate the help :rocker:

Install a 30 amp Rv plug on the exterior. Even if you don't own an rv , friends can plug in when visiting. It will also help resale value.

I'm basically in a similar state although I'm installing the sub panel myself. It's been mentioned before but get anything in there you think you might want before the wallboard goes up. Things to consider: CAT6 cable, coax, alarm wires, telephone, security cameras, fire alarm, etc.....if you think you ever want it, get it in now. Going overboard is defined by you. I'm primarily running lighting (overkill), 120V recepts, and 240V recepts but have already put in CAT6 and a few other bits. Regarding the 120V run you referenced, check your code....here, for a garage, 20A is required with no 15A allowed (for recepts)....and don't forget your GFCI (again, check your codes). For the lighting, AFCI is probably required.

Cheers.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, definitely some things I hadn't thought of. Just found out the electrician was only installing a 50amp service. Saw 2x50amp on the contract, come to learn that's for 220v 50amp, not 100amp service!

Did you end up modifying your plan to work with 50a service in the garage or ?

Curious as I'm planning on doing something very similar, pulling a 100a sub panel off of my 200a main.

I don't know if code permits 15A receptacle circuits, but just run all 20A anyway. There are just too many random power tools that will trip a 15A breaker, especially if you have several things plugged in. The 20A circuit is only going to cost a few pennies more. Lighting circuits can be 15A.

Be sure to include a few general purpose receptacles near the garage door openings down low (inside) and the divide between doors. Don't forget the receptacles up high for your door openers.
At least one outside weatherproof receptacle.

Personally I would put in a change for 90A if its not too late. my welder draws 54amps at full load so I am at the same stage as you but I ran 2-2-2-4 AL MHF from the house to the shop and I am putting a 90 on the house panel and 90 at the shop. I am doing a sub-panel on my weld shop wall with an 80 and splitting two 220's and 4 20a 110's off that panel.

Yeah he installed a 100amp yesterday, no way a 50 amp was going to cut it
