I’m looking for someone with a lot of knowledge and experience in the NW Oklahoma area that could really teach me machining. I’m mostly seeking a mentor/friend who has a lot of experience. I had a good mentor some time back that began to teach me everything he knew, but he passed away and that ended. I’m a great listener; thanks for your consideration.

That's a great idea. I wish my father was alive so he could teach me. I have basics and had machine shop in secondary school, but there's lots that I wish I could do better or differently.
It would be so cool to find someone that say was retired, has no means to have the tools come & teach, in return for use in the shop . win win

In the absence of a mentor there are a number of internet forums. All have their good & bad but the bottom line is there is a lot to be learned.

Might I suggest that you join the following group and ask the question there; https://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/ . There are also other groups out there on the net also. Ask around if there are any Model Engineers groups around your area. They are good sources of information.

Not close or I'd be willing to help. It would also be good to state what machines you intend to use and give a loose estimate of what you intend to do/make. For example; A jig borer makes holes on location the same as a knee mill or a radial arm drill press but there's a quantum difference in accuracy/precision per what the job requires. There are plenty of videos and some of them are quite good. Machining is a huge subject so maybe you should begin with stating what you want to know in some sort of order. Just a suggestion.

I would help but I'm just a hobbyist and lack any real experience. I have bought equipment (Summit gap bed lathe and old series 1 Bridgeport mill that I rebuilt and taught myself to use. I research everything extensively on practical machinist and other boards but lack any institutional training. Glad to help out if I can.
