Seeking recommendations for electric pole hedge trimmer

Hi, all.

I'm in the market for a pole hedge trimmer, and would be grateful for recommendations. I want electric, doesn't need to be cordless. If cordless, I'm already into Milwaukee and Dewalt battery platforms. I need extended reach for trimming things that are out of reach for the standard trimmers that I already have. Some user reviews of a Dewalt model are not good. Seeking something that's not going to go TU quickly, although it will not be used daily.

TIA for all advice.

I have and love the dewalt. It has cut things it has business cutting. I recent damaged the bar being stupid, so I replaced it with a new bar and Oregon chain and it's back in action.

I have no idea what the negative reviews say, but the only thing I could possibly see to complain about is the attachment mechanism for the pole sections. I've never used any other pole saw, so I don't know what is "typical", but it's not like a ski pole or painter's pole where it telescopes. There are three sections, and they fit together with a plastic threaded coupler. You do get some flex at these joints, and at full extension you can certainly see the deflection in the whole pole. That said, I've never broken it or even felt like I was at risk of breaking it. Also, I frequently use the little protrusion at the base of the blade (shoe?) to pull branches that I've just cut down from the tree. The fact that the sections have a threaded coupler makes me confident they won't shift axially when I'm pulling on the whole thing.

EDIT: Sorry. I struggle with reading comprehension. I see you're looking at the hedge trimmer. Disregard.

I have the M18 Milwaukee and am very pleased with it's performance. It's so much light than am Stihl and that's the most important aspect to me.

Appreciate you're into other platforms but I love my Ego multi tool with hedge trimmer, pole saw, string trimmer, and extension. I also have their chain saw and blower. No complaints.

I have the articulating pole hedge trimmer from DeWalt and that sucker will cut some very thick brush! It's got some flop in the locking mechanism, but for the three times a year I need it, it more than does the job!

I just got the Ego PS1001. It's pricey, but has an extendable pole and can have an added section for pretty serious length (17'+).

If I hadn't bought the Ego (which I have for all my OPE stuff), I would have gone Milwaukee M18. Reviews of both of them are great.

A few reviews I'd previously found left me with doubts about the articulating mechanism on the Dewalt. And in no small way contributed to my decision to start this thread. Thanks for the replies, and I'll welcome any additional responses.

With the long heavy gasoline powered "Kombi" machines that convert with attachments to be string trimmers, zig zag sickle bar style hedge trimmers and "chainsaw on a stick" I find that the handle needs to be moved farther down away from the powerhead when using the sickle bar or chainsaw attachments than when using the lighter string head. I would expect the battery electrics to be the same way. Makes the weight easier to handle.

Interestingly, Milwaukee's website shows "coming soon" for all of their M18 pole trimmers. Looks like they've obsoleted all of the recent models.

I have a 120VAC Remington pole saw. It works fine for occasional homeowner use. You can take the saw off the pole and use it as a regular electric chain saw. I used it this spring to cut up a large fallen tree branch and it worked fine.

I have a Bosch hedge trimmer and it is excellent in all respects.

For a pole saw, I actually bought the HF model and it has surpassed all expectations. I was totally surprised. I wanted a plug- in to 110V AC design so I wouldn’t have to store fuel.

My only complaint is the reservoir for the bar and chain oil is a little small, requires refilling every 8-10 min or so if you are really on it. But it has not skipped a beat and cuts through more than it is rated for.
