Selecting the right die?

I've got a hub for my VR-4 Galant and it has some damage to the first three threads or so. Probably a stupid question, but how to I select the proper size die in order to rethread it?

Never had to rethread anything before...

go to the store and open a new one out of the box and check it, or take the hub nut off the other side and check that one.

measure with calapers and use a thread guage

If there are only mushed a little, use a small triangular file to clean them up.

caliper and a set of thread pitch gauges. remember its gonna be metric. i would recommend a thread file because it will have more applications than a large thread restoring nut but you may have to use both
